Title: Deathfest - One for the extreme metal fans
Post by: nfe on January 07, 2009, 07:28:38 PM
A wee touch plugging for a new Uk festival...

The inaugural UK DEATHFEST will take place in Leeds in May 2009.

Akercocke, The Rotted and Dam are the first of many extreme additions to play at the 16 band, two-stage event at the Leeds University Union on Bank Holiday Sunday, May 3, 2009, which is being organised by the team behind Damnation Festival.

And in a bid to beat the misery of the credit crunch and gloom of recession, a 'January Sales' offer will see tickets put on sale tomorrow morning at 9am for just £14.50 until the end of the month.

Festival organiser Gavin McInally said: "Following the continued success of our Terrorizer Stage at Damnation Festival over the past four years, we felt it was time to give some of the UK's most brutal talent the main stage to themselves.

"The first of hopefully many UK Deathfest events will feature two stages; a main stage of predominantly death metal and an alternative second stage crammed with doom, sludge, grind and even some thrash if we can squeeze it in.

"We're delighted that Akercocke, The Rotted and Dam are already on board and we promise further stellar announcements in the coming weeks."

Doors will open early in the afternoon at UK Deathfest with bands being staggered between the stages throughout the day.

Gavin added: "In recognition of Britain's sorry financial state right now, we've kept our ticket prices to a bare minimum and friends sharing Travel Lodge rooms in Leeds can get booked in for as little as £10 each right now so we hope to enjoy the support of the UK's extreme metal fan base without putting a dent in wallets!"

UK Deathfest will take place on Sunday 3rd May at Leeds University Union with Akerc--ke, The Rotted and Dam confirmed with more bands to be announced.

'January Sales' tickets are on sale tomorrow morning at 9am and cost £14.50 until 31st January 2009, available from http://www.leedstickets.com/ , http://www.ticketline.co.uk/ and http://www.seetickets.co.uk/
Tickets are also on sale in Leeds at stores including Crash and Jumbo.

If I'm back in Leeds round then, might come along!

Meh, The Rotted played at my venue a few months back. Wasn't impressed. However, check out a band called Kruger, they supported them and they were fantastic!

Didn't see the bit about a second stage, get some wicked doom going on there, Britain is crammed with it! When you've done that, give me a shout, and i'll tell you when to put people on, so we don't end up with a great doom band on at the same time as Akerc--ke or something, because that'd be a disaster! :)

Death metal favourites DESECRATION will bolster the UK DEATHFEST lineup, with INGESTED and RETH joining them.

The bands will raise hell at Leeds University Union on Sunday May 3rd for the 16-band, two-stage event organised by the team behind Damnation Festival.

And they will join a brutal bill that already includes Akerc--ke, The Rotted and Dam.

Festival director Gavin McInally said: "UK Deathfest is about unleashing extreme metal of the highest quality and it doesn't come much better than Desecration. We're also delighted to host great acts like Ingested and Reth and promise to announce more of the same in the coming weeks!"

Kansas death metallers ORIGIN will invade British shores bringing their technical brutality to UK DEATHFEST.

They will be joined by legendary Brummies BENEDICTION and UK rising death/grind talent INFECTED DISARRAY in wreaking havoc on Leeds in May.

Previously confirmed bands are: AKERc--kE, DESECRATION, THE ROTTED, DAM, INGESTED and RETH.

The Rotted frontman Ben McCrow said: "Having played on the bill of the first Damnation Festival, I'm proper looking forward to being a part of the first of what I hope will be many Deathfests!

"Respect to Damnation for putting so much weight behind extreme music in the UK!

"This is gonna be a killer day!"

I actually find that dissapointing. I want them to be on for as long as possible and there are precious few bands, if any within the genre, that I would like to see in the top slot/s more.

They'll be on a fair while, as will Akerc--ke, it's only an 8 band bill on the mainstage and we'll probabaly be looking at being on the from lunchtime till 11-11.30.

Festival director Gavin McInally said: "It's becoming a real beast of a lineup!
"Vader laying waste to Deathfest will be a true sight to behold, and with Leng Tch'e making their first ever trip across and the filthy noise of Black Sun disturbing punters, fans can expect a real treat.
"We've still got a couple of cats in the bag so we're not done yet... Watch this space!"

Grindcore pioneers REPULSION will mark their first ever UK show with an exclusive performance at DEATHFEST.

The American legends will end a 25-year wait when they touch down in Leeds for what is destined to be an historic show at Leeds University Union - taking the stage alongside the likes of Vader, Origin, Akerc--ke and Benediction at the country's finest new extreme metal event.

Rounding off the devastatingly versatile bill will be England's purveyors of doom LAZARUS BLACKSTAR and local grind noisemakers ESCLAVAGE.

One of the most innovative bands in grindcore, Repulsion wil treat UK fans at the Terrorizer-sponsored event - which is organsied by the team behind Damnation Festival - on Bank Holiday Sunday, May 3 at Leeds University Union.

Terrorizer's James Hoare said: "Set your iTunes to random and within at least three songs you'll hear a band that owe these gorelords a debt that can never be repaid; the atmospheric bass rumble, the evocative lyrics, the throaty croak and the powerful mystique.

"Repulsion are the source of so much of death metal and grindcore's horror that if you don't catch their UK debut at the inaugural Deathfest, we'll strip your membership to Club Metal."

Festival director Gavin McInally added: "We're proud to bring Repulsion to the UK for the first time and have them billed amongst some of the best extreme metal bands from across the globe including Vader, Leng Tch'e and Origin and the best of British in the shape of Akerc--ke, Benediction, Desecration, and The Rotted.

"Lazarus Blackstar and Esclavage are another two fine home-grown additions more than capable of keeping the first Deathfest interesting with their mix of doom and grind.

"Despite the strong, international line-up, we've stuck to our promise of making this event as cheap as possible with full price tickets still under £20 and hotel rooms for as little as a tenner for folk sharing.
We sincerely hope that fans will support this event and prove that a high-profile extreme metal showcase can be successful on our wee island.

"If that's the case, we'll better it next year!"

The full Deathfest lineup is: VADER, REPULSION, ORIGIN, AKERc--kE, BENEDICTION, DESECRATION, LENG TCH'E, LAZARUS BLACKSTAR, THE ROTTED, DAM, BLACK SUN, RETH, INFECTED DISARRAY, INGESTED and ESCLAVAGE.

Tickets are only £19.50 and are available from http://www.leedstickets.com/ , http://www.ticketline.co.uk/ and http://www.seetickets.co.uk/
Also on sale in Leeds at stores including Crash and Jumbo.

Nah I live in Scotland mate, as do almost all the organisers, it's in Leeds because it's the centre-ish of the nation and we could get a suitable venue - and one we've already git a relationship with from Damnation festival.

All these metal guys with beards look alike though

Following the massive success of the online poll for a band to win the final slot at the inaugural DEATHFEST organisers are delighted to announce that both Neuroma and Dragged Into Sunlight have been added to the bill.

The successful Liverpool bands claimed over 50 per cent of the public vote between them after more than 400 extreme metal fans voted.

Festival organiser Gavin McInally said: "After the massive amount of graft both bands and their fans had put in to make it a clear two-horse race, we couldn't just ditch one, so both will now take the stage in less than three weeks' time."

Deathfest will take place on Bank Holiday Sunday, May 3, at Leeds University Union.

The full Deathfest lineup is: VADER, REPULSION, ORIGIN, AKERc--kE, BENEDICTION, DESECRATION, LENG TCH'E, LAZARUS BLACKSTAR, THE ROTTED, DAM, BLACK SUN, RETH, INFECTED DISARRAY, INGESTED, NEUROMA, DRAGGED INTO SUNLIGHT and ESCLAVAGE.
