We're all booked in :)
Saturday 28th February, 2pm to 6pm
Greenhouse Rehearsal Studios Wellington House,
Pollard Street East,
Manchester,
M40 7FS
I'll bring a box of beer and some cola :)
When you get to the place, it's a big converted mill. You'll know you've got the right place if you see my bright blue MG ZS with black alloy wheels parked outside:
As you enter the yard/drive which runs alongside the mill, walk down a short way until there's a cover overhead and a courtyard on your left. Walk in here and at the bottom on the left hand side is a lift. You want the first floor, third button up from the bottom (the second white one). As you leave the lift take the first right towards all the rehearsal rooms, past the vending machines. Keep walking all the way down to the far end of the building, past all the rooms and wooden storage boxes. Turn left at the end here, and we'll be in the big room in the corner directly in front of you. Any problems, just give Martin a call.
If everyone who's coming can reply to this thread, and tell me what you're bringing, I'll update this post :D

Alright Dave,
I'll be there. Will be taking the following:
Guitars
'57 Reissue strat with Apaches
1970s tele
That's it - probably won't be bringing my amp but may well bring the fulltone OCD. Shame you won't be bringing your CS tele though although I am seriously considering swapping my amp so definitely want to give the Martamps a go.
Cheers for organising! Looking forward to it.
-
I'd like to hear the OCD mate - please bring it! I just can't squeeze the Tele in, sorry, but if there's a way I'll try and bring it...
-
No worries mate - that CS tele has been sold by guitars4you now. It wasn't sold to me though!
-
I'll be there, I don't have any bags or cases to bring my guitar in, I can bring a load of picks...
what's the best way by train, I'm looking at google maps and piccadilly station looks the closest, then walk up?
the tram doesn't go in that direction does it?
-
No trams nearby I'm afraid :( It's a 15-20min walk from Piccadilly I think, so not too bad.
-
I can bring my Feline Lion, Axis Super Sport, Martamp Roadstar Head ( and possibly the 1x12 with the G12m Heritage in it) and the odd pedal or 2.
-
Is there parking at the place?
-
Excellent Matt - I'd love to try your Lion out :)
Ian - there's loads of parking outside on the road.
-
will investigate coming! what shall i bring if so? a steinbeger, a v, something else?
-
Whatever you fancy fella :)
-
Ian - there's loads of parking outside on the road.
Good stuff! And my offer of a lift to people in the south still stands - PM if you're interested and we'll see if we can work something out.
-
Count me in!
I'll bring:-
Strat with IT's
Tele with Blackguards
Gordon Smith with Stormy Mondays
Sounds good, if anybody is staying around possibly a few beers in the evening?
-
will investigate coming! what shall i bring if so? a steinbeger, a v, something else?
it's always good to have a V around
-
I've put in the diary so I'll be there.
I'll bring the following
Guitar
Fender CS nocaster
Pedals
Skreddy - Lunar Lander
Skreddy - Screwdriver
Skreddy - ?Lady
HBE - Power Screamer
Nick Greer - Ghetto Stomp
-
*cough*
I'm going and carrying my original '59 Les Paul (http://216.211.140.132/Smileys/Lots_O_Smileys/icon_jokercolor.gif)
(just kidding )
-
I'll be coming along, for the afternoon stuff atleast :)
I won't bring an amp, but have no issues in bringing any guitars. Am looking forward to trying some Martamps, as am thinking of ordering an Orion! Also have pedalboards etc I could bring if wanted.
I'm willing to bring whatever people want to try/hear, either because of the guitar or the pickup in it. So feel free to shout up what you want me to bring from the following:
Gibby LP Standard - AIV Mules
Tokai LoveRock Custom - Rebel Yells
Gordon Smith Graduate 60 - Black Dog (b) / Riff Raff (n)
Homebuilt Strat - Cold Sweat
Homebuilt Strat - Mothers Milks
Fender Strat - Crawler/Irish Tour/Irish Tour
Jap Squier Strat - Apaches
Fender Strat w/Floyd - VH2s
Cheapie 'Broadcaster' - Piledriver
Homebuilt Tele - Black Guards
Ibie S470 - Nailbombs with a Trilogy
Patrick Eggle Prototype - hopefully have its HolyDivers
PRS Custom 22 - Abraxas'
Gibson Faded Flying V - Riff Raff (b) / MQ (n)
-
Love Rock with Rebel Yells please! :)
-
I'd love a go on your VHII Strat brow, i really want it! :D
Dave, which Feline Lion did you get?
-
i am tempted still but need to see how the month goes, xmas hols are always unproductive for me so i feel weekends are needed for other stuff at the moment... i may be over that by feb ;)
if i do train it will be one guitar
if someone can come through burton (or close enough by that i can get a lift/train to a meet point) on the way up north i can do more ;)
-
can I try the ibanez with the nailbomb, thanks :)
-
looking good for me coming to this. not 100% confirmed of course, but i'll very very likely come. any other londoners up for it?
edit: i think guitar wise I shall bring my strat, if its ready, or if not a steinberger for the curiosity value.
-
if someone can come through burton (or close enough by that i can get a lift/train to a meet point) on the way up north i can do more ;)
If you can get a train to Matlock, then I could pick you up on the way :)
-
thanks brow, i have looked into all the options and it seems like going matlock first might be a bit more of a faff than i anticipated. Either 3 seperate buses or two trains and approximatly 1 1/2 hours... in reality its not going to be the best idea for me since a train to manc is only 2 hours with 1 change. unfortunately my girlfirend isnt going for the idea of driving me to matlock like i hoped she might, i was thinking of it as a 1/2 hour drive but in reality its closer to an hour
anyway, cant confirm anything yet but i may do the train with just 1 guitar (possibly the junior since i have it till march)
-
Go on, bring the Junior! I'd love to see it ;)
I have a funny feeling that guitar belongs to PhilKing......
-
I had hoped to come to this, but I'm afraid I'm not available that weekend :( Otherwise I'd have given Wez a lift on the way, too. :(
Hope it goes well!

damn roo - that would have been a great plan!
junior... philking... whatever gave you that idea!!! Was it the sudden access to vintage parts or the fact someone based in the UK wouldnt let me keep it till march ;)

I knew he'd got you the logos, likes the odd UK custom build, the offer of old parts, the March wait, plus the fact you'd got photos of his custom Jazz bass. It all fell into place ;)
-
Twinfan nailed it with a 30 pounds sledge hammer :D

Wez - I may well be able to pick you up. PM me your postcode and I'll see how far out of my way it is. I'll be in a (new) mini though so guitar space may have to be limited to two (I'll be bringing one).
Cheers,
Ian.
-
PM'd :)
-
thanks to Ian it looks like i am in, cheers mate!!
The stuff i may bring is:
WV Less Pull Junior (BKP-91)
WV Fanned Fret Prototype (Mule/Manhattan)
WV Ventura (Holydiver)
BYOC tribooster
BYOC large beaver
the FF has some cosmetic faults you will have to forgive but despite that i think its one thats well worth giving a play - also it has a manhattan which i doubt many of you have tried
-
Great stuff - nice one Wez!
This meet is coming together nicely! I'm looking forward to trying your Less Pull and Ventura :D
-
well if i have to drop one from the list it will be the ventura... cant pass up on a chance to get people playing a FF/Multiscale guitar
-

Yay!
Everyone should own one! :)
Shame I can't come, because I would have brought my BD-loaded baritone and MM-loaded ibby :(
Have a good one, I expect clips and pics, or it didn't happen! :)

Twin dunno if you got my message anyway stick me on the attendee list looks like I will be able to get there

-
Good stuff! Looking good, guys!
-
I'm losing track Dave - how many are going now? There looks to be quite a few - without trying to be overly organised I assume there will have to be some kind of natural order for the day. Many guitars, amps and effects will be there by the sounds of it!
-
The attendee list is in the first post, there's 11 of us now :)
We'll have the room from 2pm to 6pm. Martin and I will probably get there just before 2pm with all the amps and a couple of guitars. I'll bring some soft drinks, so if you want anything else feel free to bring it along.
I'm assuming people will arrive/leave at different times so I was just going to play it by ear and see how things pan out? Not sure I can put a structure together, I think it'll just be free-form.......
-
Is anyone bringing a bass and a drum machine..?
-
I'm assuming people will arrive/leave at different times so I was just going to play it by ear and see how things pan out? Not sure I can put a structure together, I think it'll just be free-form.......
Sounds good to me mate!
-
Add my sexy PRS CE Maple Top 24, im'a coming and so is she! it came today, absolutely can't live without it now... completely floors everything else...
I may also bring my bass too if its wanted?
-
I want to bring either:
Classic 70s Strat - slowhand set, baseplated bridge, BKP trem, wezv neck
Steinberger GP - miracle man set, feline rebuild
any opinions there? if not i'll bring the strat since my thoughts are leaning more in that direction
-
Bring the strat Gwem, bring the strat!
-
lets make sure its finished first!!! shouldnt be an issue really... even if it ends up being me bringing the strat!! ;)
I want to see Adam and TF's latest aquisitions from Mr Smith
-

sorry man, i'm just really excited as you can tell...
but ok mr.twinfan lets put the strat on the list for the time being.
-

No problem! I think the McRosie is going to end up being my #1 guitar :o It sounded awesome tonight through my Martamp Orion :D
but ok mr.twinfan lets put the strat on the list for the time being.
Done, Mr gwEm ;)
-
No problem! I think the McRosie is going to end up being my #1 guitar :o It sounded awesome tonight through my Martamp Orion :D
So when you have time, give us more details on it's topic! :D I'm building (faster as I can, or very slow) a L5S Warmoth body modified to set neck with a blank of Brazilian Rosewood I got here and am very interested about :)
-
Can i come too? Can bring a tele with a holydiver in the bridge or an epi les paul with MQs. Oh and some home made byoc pedals and a tiny terror if interested. Would be driving down from glasgow though, i love road trips.
-
At the minute I'm thinking of bringing my CU22 with Abraxas and my Jap Strat with VHIIs. That guitar seems to get much more attention than anything else I have so thought I best bring it along
-
If i play a guitar with Abraxas pickups i swear i'll not only buy a set, but a new guitar to put them in. They just appeal to me on a deep level. Somehow.
-

Sorry mate - missed this! I'll add you to the list :)
Bring whatever gear you fancy :)
-
two weeks to go! no work stuff has come up to prevent me coming so far... i hope it does not :) looking forward to it greatly
-
Should be good fun I think - a chance to try out some amps and guitars, a meet a few like minded folks :)
-
I've just booked my coach, it cost... £3
I love national express sometimes :)
-
i'm driving down from Glasgow in the morning, should take about 3/4 hours i think. Fun fun!
-
i'm driving down from Glasgow in the morning, should take about 3/4 hours i think. Fun fun!
I might be relocating to Glasgow... hehe :)
-
Room for one more? I'll be travelling from the West Country...
I'll bring my Ibanez RG550 with a Rebel Yell along :)
-
Nice one!
-
I'll be bringing another guitar along with me...
I just got a 7 string, Ibanez 7621. Amazing, nothing like the rubbish Schecters i tried.
Japanese made and absolutely amazing! it and the PRS are coming with me :)
-
Cool!
-
I'm tempted to bring my mustang copy if anyone wants a fiddle with a shortscale guitar. And the lace sensors in it sound pretty damn good to me.
I'm actually excited now.
-
"I think we're gonna need a bigger boat."
-
-
Do we need to pay anything to attend this btw? Chipping in for the studio time etc?
-
The room is costing £30. If anyone attending wants to bung in a pound or two towards it, that would be cool :)
-
The room is costing £30. If anyone attending wants to bung in a pound or two towards it, that would be cool :)
That sounds very fair to me!
-
By the way, don't feel that you have to folks. I know most people have travel costs etc. In return I'm getting to meet you and try out your guitars so I get something out of it too :)
-
Couple of quid shouldn't be a problem Id've thought.
Just bought a new car though so I may have to see how it fares on petrol costs 1st!
-
I'll be happy to chip in, seems only fair.
-
I'll definitely chip in :D
Anyone want me to bring along my Engl Blackmore head?
-
Sooooooooooooo... who's bringing the guitar stands?
-
If you can fit the Engl in ChunkyMoney, bring it along :)
I'll bring a couple of stands, but I haven't got enough for all the guitars that are coming!
-
I have about 4 or 5 (I think) single guitar stands and 1 of those stands that holds 6 guitars, so I can bring those if they're of any use?
-
Why not mate, if you can!
-
As am only bringing a few guitars, it shouldn't be a problem! :)
-
I can't fit my cab in the guitar with 2 guitars and the Martamp head. I'm guessing people would rather see another guitar than a cab, so I'm leaving it at home.
-
No probs. There will be various things we can plug your head into ;)
-
bad news, for me at least, i won't be able to attend now this meeting due to work commitments that weekend. at least you guys won't get to hear my weak playing ;)
apologies twinfan
-
boo hiss boo
thats it... i am keeping the strat :P
-
Sorry gwEm, catch you next time???
-
Sorry gwEm, catch you next time???
absolutely, needless to say i'm pretty gutted about this actually. can't play hard ball with work though in times like these.
-
I'm sure :(
-
Well my coach ticket is booked and im looking foward to meeting you all next week pity I wont be able to stay long but what the hell a few hours is better than nowt. I'll be bringing my Gibson Les Paul Standard with Mules and looking forward to seeing Feline Lions
cheers
keith
-
I've just added my Epiphone SG with Riff Raffs to the list of guitars so anyone who fancies trying out the Angus setup I use for YC/DC? can do so. I've just been checking everything out before a gig tonight and I'd forgotten how good and Angus-like it sounds!
Does anyone need any more info for next Saturday? I've added some details to the first post about how to get into the building and find us! Martin's mobile number is on his website if you need to call us so it might be worth adding that to your phones.
I'll wear a YC/DC? shirt on the day, or a red rose in my jacket buttonhole. I can't decide which....
-
I'll wear a YC/DC? shirt on the day, or a red rose in my jacket buttonhole. I can't decide which....
after the fun at the london meet, that might make sense :)
-
I've just added my Epiphone SG with Riff Raffs to the list of guitars
Cool - I want to hear some riff raffs in action as I'm thinking about getting some (I assume they'll sound different in an LP though?)
-
They'll have the same basic character, Ian :)
-
hey Dave, if your at your rehearsal place tomorrow any chance of taking a photo of the building just in case :)
knowing my luck I'll walk past it 3 times
-
I'll be there next Wednesday - I'll try and remember to take a pic!
-
I've added a pic of my motor to the first post - just so you know what you're looking for when you get to the meet :)
-
Just fitted my 'spare' VHIIs to my McCarty Rosewood, so that's coming along for the ride too...
-
I wish I could go but I'm still too battered and bruised at the moment. I can't even play as my back muscles won't support my left arm yet. But it sounds like you have a great event organised here. I wish you all a great time and look forward to some pics, videos and general chit chat back in here after its taken place! :D
-
Just looking for stuff using the joys of satellite photos. Put the postcode of the rehearsal studio in and it came up with this:
http://maps.live.com/#JndoZXJlMT1NNDArN0ZTJmJiPTU2LjA1OTc2OTQ3OTEwNjYlN2U4LjYxMzI4MTI1JTdlNDYuMzE2NTg0MTgxODIyMiU3ZS0xMC41NDY4NzU= (http://maps.live.com/#JndoZXJlMT1NNDArN0ZTJmJiPTU2LjA1OTc2OTQ3OTEwNjYlN2U4LjYxMzI4MTI1JTdlNDYuMzE2NTg0MTgxODIyMiU3ZS0xMC41NDY4NzU=)
I'm assuming this is the right place Dave.
-
Yep, that's it!
-
That place looks HUGE.
Couldn't figure out how to get the image returned into the post though - is there a way of doing that or does it have to be a link?
-
the grim ooop north thread needs a sticky too :)
-
Ian - the entrance to the building is at the other end compared to the arrow i.e. the right hand side as you look at the photo.....
Cheers gwEm - I was wondering how you got yours to be one!
-
I hate work was hoping to add name to this..but working
-
Could you add my Patrick Eggle prototype with Holy Divers and my Tokai Love Rock Custom with Rebel Yells to the list please :)
I'm also thinking about bringing some of the more obscure pedals from my collection if anyone would be interested? I'm thinking the EMMA ReezaFRATzitz, the AMT Distation and the BSIABII which Pierre built :)
-
Why not mate, why not!
-
i was going to chuck in a couple of BYOC's as well... more pedals is always good
any point bringing my GT-8 (not that i know how to use it properly) or little rock?
-
Entirely up to you Wez, bring whatever you like!
-
some red bear plecs? :)
-
i was going to chuck in a couple of BYOC's as well... more pedals is always good
any point bringing my GT-8 (not that i know how to use it properly) or little rock?
I'm bringing my pedal board, which contains a rat, delay, muff and phaser all from BYOC. Oh and a home made boost pedal. Loud and dirty.
-
Sounds good guys, sounds good! Everyone on the list still up for it then?
By the way, the lift was bust last night so you may have trouble getting in the building via my directions :( It's too complicated to explain the alternative so if the lift is bust on Sat, give Martin a call and one of us will bob down and meet you.
If the lift IS bust, we'll be the ones swearing loudly about lugging amps about!
-
I'm still planning on being there. :)
-
I'm also still planning to be there.
-
and so am i ;)
the current list of stuff i am bringing is
WV Less Pull Junior
WV Ventura
WV FF Proto
BYOC - triboost
BYOC - Large beaver
GGG - Green ringer
Peterson stroboflip tuner
A lead or two
A few red bear plecs
-
Great stuff. I wonder how many of the other names in post #1 will turn up???
I'm really looking forward to checkin gout your Ventura and Les Pull Junior...
-
I can't see anything on the list with a Cold Sweat in, so I'll bring my ash bodied Strat with a CS bridge too.
Oh yeah, I'm still comin' btw
-
I've updated the first post to show who/what is confirmed as coming :)
-
actually i knocked gwems strat off - its one of the ones i was unsure about bringing but i reckon he should get to play it before the rest of you :P
-
I was going to bring my tele with the holydiver in the bridge, but since Wez is bringing his explorer-a-like with a HD i wont bother. Just my MQ epi les paul and pedal board.
Can anyone help me out with directions from the M6 down to the meet? I'll punch it into a map thingy but first hand directions are always a bonus.
-
bring it anyway... i always like single pickup tele's and i am sure it will be quite different to mine
-
I'm glad there is a swear filter in here. oh $%ing sweet shiteting jesus cr@p i can't come tomorrow. I can barely $%ing walk. me being very enthusiastic to greet my dominoes pizza delivery i kicked the corner of the door frame and think i have a broken toe. Hurts like a biznatch and i can barely walk, let alone drive. Pictures later, girlfriend is out with the camera but this is a world of hurt. what a titwank.
Just previewed that, i don't care about the language, it sodding hurts.
-
it better be hanging off :P ;)
-
Awful excuse, get in the damn car tomorrow!
-
Well, see you chaps tomorrow
keith
-
Off to bed in a mo ready for a looong drive in the morning (and the looong return journey!)
Just restrung the strat and tele. Decided to put 9's on them both and they sound shocking! Maybe it's tiredness - will double check in the morning before leaving.
-
i am the same ian - just restrung the fanned fret prototype with 10-46's and feel it would have been better with 10-52's
i must go bed soon too - or it may be painfull tomorrow
-
my jackson will be coming with me
-
Well it was nice to put faces to names but I'm already bloody forgetting them!
That was a rather pleasant way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Lots of nice shiny things for me to leave my sticky fingerprints all over.
Kudos to Twinfan for organising it and the rest of you for bringing such nice gear! Lots of stuff I'd never get around to trying, all in one place. Great stuff, we should do it again sometime.
Now where did I put the credit card...
-
So did it go well? Any pics, videos?
-
just got home... thanks to TF for organising it, Martin for bringing so many nice amps for us all to play through and Ian for making it possible for me to go
i didnt take many pics but cameras were around so no doubt a group shot will appear at some point
-
like i say... i didnt take many photos but:

Err, most of them were mine!  8)
alright ... my favorite was the red one!!
thx to martin for making so many nice amps for us to play through :P
-
You would choose one that wasn't mine as your favourite, wouldn't you!
-
i always go for the red ones without many controls... the orion sounded great but too many twiddly bits for me
-
Wow I'm impressed! Looks like a great day. Look at all that gear!!!! 8)
Shobet, that looks like real passion in that picture, great shot!
-
like i say... i didnt take many photos but:

I was being strangled by the guitar, honest!
-
^ Was you playing along to a backing track or was you all jamming together?
-
It would be a stretch of the imagination to call the noise that was coming out of my general direction playing.
-
It would be a stretch of the imagination to call the noise that was coming out of my general direction playing.
I'm sure it sounded great, it certainly looks it! :D
-
Looks cool guys! :)
-
At that particular moment Shobet sounded.....err.....shitee.
Before that, he sounded great!
-
that rehersal space is huge(!). i've booked a smallish one for the london one, wonder now if that was a mistake
glad you all enjoyed yourself :)
-
A great day out guys. I think my memory of the day will always be the look on Martin W's face when Shobet played his Fuzz Factory through the Martamp relic. Priceless! My ears are still ringing.
Now which of you northern softies is going to follow my lead and drive the 200+ miles to the London meet!

Now which of you northern softies is going to follow my lead and drive the 200+ miles to the London meet!
Fair play for driving so far.
And to Keith for the bus marathon from Sunderland and back
It was great to meet everyone today; really glad I went.
However......won't be attending London as I am now deaf.
I can however still hear my own brain and it's telling me to buy things....................
-
Ian for making it possible for me to go
No worries mate - it was great to meet you and tell you about my passion for tunnels!
-
Provocative conversation you two were having! :D
-
I am glad you guys had such a great time.
-
Provocative conversation you two were having! :D
haha - it was a completely honest statement with no punnery intended. Wez then told me he is a psychology teacher and explained what my love of tunnels probably means.
-
Sometimes the unintentional things are the most telling. Maybe Freud was right.
Sounds like you guys had a heck of a tigh...time!
-
^ :?
Sounds revealing!
-
Wish i could have come in the end... sigh. :(
-
Yeah, it was good to see you all, pity I went to the wrong rehearsal room first and lost an hour. There's something wrong when I live 10 miles a way and get there last
I was really impressed with the Martamps, top notch build quality and background noise unnoticable even with the gain cranked, excellent amps. The Roadstar 18 TT was my personal favorite for simplicity / portability / price although Twinfan's Orion is a Monster!
Thanks for organising it guys :D
Somehow I forgot to try Keith's Les Paul and Ian's Strat though!
Also very impressed with the Wez LP Junior, you can't beat the fresh smell or nitro!
-
Well, got back about 9.30 Sat. night had a great day out in Manchester even though I didnt have much time. It was good to meet you all played some really nice stuff now I have got gas big style so I need to find a band so I can justify to the wife that I need to have a Feline Lion made and one of Martin's amps to put it through(thanks to Matt for the Feline and Martin for the amp especially the Orion I think it was, blew me away that one) oh yes and I need Dave's Gibson with the p90's ,Wez's Les pull................etc etc. I have a couple of pics to post as the others didnt come out too well so will put them on later.
Anyway thanks again and hope we can meet up again.
cheers

tbh i dont really go in for the freud stuff at all... but its something that always pops into my head in certain situations like when driving through a tunnel, so Ian's statement about how much he liked driving through tunnels really made me chuckle :D
I have to say that Matt's feline Lion was a real mary poppins
-
It was great to meet everyone, thanks for coming. :D
Thanks to TF for bringing most of the amps (all but 3!) booking the room and bringing drinks.
There were some great guitars in that room, and Wes' stuff deserves a mention - lovely. :)
-
No probs mate, happy to bring the amps out for people to try. Anyone is welcome to come over to mine at any time if they want to try them again :)
I loved the WezV Less Pull - PhilKing has got a cracking guitar there. Plus it smells fantastic :D Maybe I'll own a custom one day ;)
-
Now which of you northern softies is going to follow my lead and drive the 200+ miles to the London meet!
If I wasn't already busy, I would do. Sorry guys :(
-
smell of nitro - what smell of nitro 8)
and i dont think anybody had any difficulties with the multiscale ... although i dont think the benefits of the system were as evident with the strings i had on - the powefull low end growl wasnt coming through as much as i think it does usually!
also had an interesting incident with the Kahler on the ventura - not sure what happened but it seems like one of the rear springs may have popped out of place and all the tuning dropped down. Gonna be interested to see what i find when i take it apart later. The plus side is that this is a kahler hybrid so i was able to lock it in place as a hardtail and the guitar functioned fine for the rest of the day albeit without trem operation. lets see what i find later and see how it affects my standpoint in the great Kahler Vs floyd debate
-
I need Dave's Gibson with the p90's
I didn't even get round to trying that one! Maybe next time.
-
Some photos from me - I didn't take many as in my excitement I forgot all about the camera in my pocket:
Brows collection - how did they all fit in your car!
Brow's strat (I really liked it and don't normally like FR strats!). Brow explained it was based on the strats of Dave Murray, Mick Mars and another who's name I can't recall
(http://i258.photobucket.com/albums/hh267/IanPPrice/DSCN6868.jpg)
Shobet's Custom Shop Tele (amazingly light and resonant)
Matt's Lion (I think with Mules - and an awesome top)
Keith's Les Paul (with uncovered Mules - this may help me decide to go for covers or not)
Twinfan's amp (well one of them anyway!). I think Dave said it was a JTM45 model - I could be wrong though!
Will be taking some more photos at the London meet if I can make it!!!
-
Looks like fun, if we arrange one a bit more central over the summer (that isnt in london as I $%&#ing hate london  ) I will probably make the trip.
Theres a Harmony Central Amp forum Ampfest over summer in Northampton, in June I think. I guess they wouldnt mind a couple of "outsiders" coming :P Someone there is friendly with Blackstar and apparently they're going to bring some along just for the ampfest :)
I hate seeing Brows ash strat with the single bridge humbucker, I feel like I should've kept it :P I bet all it needed was a good pickup and setup and I would've liked it.
-
I loved the WezV Less Pull - PhilKing has got a cracking guitar there. Plus it smells fantastic :D Maybe I'll own a custom one day ;)
Now that's an interesting development! :P
Sounds like you had a good day, gents. And those are some great photos. Now let's see what happens in London in 2 weeks....

That's my JTM45/100 half stack - aka "The Angus Rig" :)
-
T'was a good day all in all. Was good to finally put faces and names to forum IDs (all of which I've since forgotten, told you I was useless at names!)
That CS Tele of Shobets was awesome, massive huge neck on it :D
I was quite surprised the 5 guitars I took all fitted in the boot of my car with no hassle at all. Goes to show a Focus has a bigger boot than I thought! :)
-
wish id come, i was tempted as im only 35 mins away on the train and it is only about a mile from manc pic station... didnt really think too much about it until it was too late and i had other plans tho. maybe next time.
-
I think the guitar that impressed me the most was that rosewood necked PRS of Twinfan's. However I liked all the ones that I tried and I now have serious GAS for a new amp.
-
I thought bargain of the meet was Brow's PRS Custom 22 for £650 :o Amazing deal!
-
^
I can't believe he was the 2nd to view it - someone passed that up at that price!
Good guitar, just shows how well you can do on the 2nd hand market
-
I've got fanned fret gas, wish I tried some open chords to see what they were like
-

Thanks!
It was the 1st PRS I found that I could afford, so there was little chance I wasn't gonna get it for the price!

Yup, apparently someone opened the case, saw the small ding on it's top and turned it down straight away! S'ppose he was 1 of those 'Blues Lawyers' that so often get associated with PRS' etc.
I've got fanned fret gas, wish I tried some open chords to see what they were like
I had a play of it and didn't notice too much difference in playability to a 'normal scale' guitar tbh. I spoke to Wez and said it's more apparent if tuning down or using 8 strings etc, so s'ppose it makes more sense to some people :)

I thought it was pretty decent.
The fanned frets take about 2 mins to get used to but then it feels little different
-
i think JDC was really liking sweep picking on the fanned fret - one of the things i wanted to dispel is the idea that they are difficult to play... which i think i really did.
i really let it down on the tonal advantages by going with the wrong set of strings... but i will prove that to you all another day. Its all part of my on going experiments with scale length, string gauges and different tuning
-
Just don't look at it as your playing! It's like playing one of these

HOW DARE YOU ;)

That sounds like a cracking day, chaps.
Really looking forward to the LDN event now!!!

I'm thinking the fanned frets could counteract the one too many beers at gig time and put the frets straight again!

had a look, it was the spring as i thought :?
not sure how it undid itself so i am going to email kahler and see what they say.

I'm not saying it wasn't a good playing guitar, both of Wez's that I played were very good, but I didn't notice much different to a regular scale guitar.
I hope my comment about the smaller bodied white explorer looking like a Guitar Hero controller wasn't taken badly, just with it being so small it reminded me of 1 is all! Great playing and sounding guitar though, and my 1st experience with anything with a Kahler on it :)
-
nah, i thought that was funny - i think you were spot on. although the size is about 90% of a full sized one so not quite that tiny ;)
-
oh and tbh, i think 'didn't notice much different to a regular scale guitar.' is half of what i was trying to prove with that fanned fret... i will convince you all of the tonal advantages another day - maybe in a quieter room!! :)
-

sweeping felt a lot more natural due to the angle of the fingering hand to the angle of the frets I think, especially with your basic 5 string minor sweep, I was messing up with the pinky on the pull off on the highest note in a sweep but I think that was down to muscle memory from playing straight frets
the sweet spots for pinch harmonics didn't really move as much as I thought they might, so they were not a problem either
WezV what scale lengths does fan fretted prototype have?

A few pics from Saturday sorry about the quality on a couple.

Yes I did manage to remember who everyone was and there's a couple of your guitars as well. Iwas knackered when I got home on Saturday night just as well I had booked Friday and today off. But enjoyed my little trip immensley, might even try and get back across when you are gigging sometime. Our gathering has got me looking for another band after my short break and loss of interest. Anyway was good to meet, cheers for the day.

WezV what scale lengths does fan fretted prototype have?
25-26" on that so i really is just a little longer than a common guitar scale length on the bass side. i used 26.5-28" on Roo's barry which worked perfectly and am now trying 25-26.5" on the new guitar. it should be more flexible with the string choice wheras the 25-26" really works best with a light top heavy bottom set

Yeah, that's the 1.
Doesn't look quite so small on JDC though! Maybe I shoulld lose some weight and slim down a bit!
-
just remembered how confused you all seemed when i was using the strobe tuner  its become second nature to me but i do remember it taking a little time to get used to

Good photos! Some lovely gear in these pics.
Brow, how does your VHII Strat sound through all those lovely amps?

Tbh, I didn't really play much in the way of gear, although I did try the Orion and Daves JTM45/100 (I think) a fair bit.
1 of both would be great! :D
-
1 of both would be great! :D
It would indeed ;)
Took the Orion to rehearsal tonight to give it a test before Saturday's gig. Sounded fantastic :)

An Orion is DEFINITELY on my short list when I need/want/can afford a new amp :)

Would that give you a good brown sound with a VHII?
-
Oh yeah :)
Really does that clean-yet-dirty thing. VHIIs are superb for that. As I don't use a fully cranked amp though, I'm lacking a bit of thickness in the tone.....
