Title: long shaft vs normal shaft Potentiometers
Post by: the_bleeding on January 08, 2009, 05:05:17 PM
so guys... i kinda wanna know which pots to buy before i start disassembling my guitar to put my warpig in. Anybody know which kind of pots i should get? Im playing a bc rich mockingbird, the control cavity looks ALOT like a les paul, hell... the entire guitar is a les paul ripoff :D -- including the carved top

thanks ugys

so i took a pot out. and its rather niteresting. its a little less than half an inch of threading... but from pictures on the internet, it looks to be longer than the regular shaft pots. though when i took it out, 3 washers fell out of the guitar so i dont know what to do. Do you think i'll be safe with regular pots?

standard threaded length = 9.52mm
long shaft threaded length = 19.05mm

I got these measurements from stewmac, who is one of the few companies that actually lists the dimensions.

No problem. PDT_003

I got some pots a while back that didn't fit because the place I got them from didn't give the specs.  When I was looking for replacements I found out that a lot of places don't list the dimensions either, not to mention some brands have slightly different specs, thus making me angry.  I ended up reaming out the holes for the shafts to fit.

This thread made me curious, has anyone actually seen a guitar that uses long shaft pots?

Just certain models or years though right?  The two I've came across had standard shafts.
