Title: Country Boys-Neck pickup
Post by: 38thBeatle on January 10, 2009, 12:19:05 PM
Here is a very quick recording I did.The guitar is  Fender MIM Tele 1950's r/i. I have done a rather sloppy noodle on the neck pickup to(hopefully) give you a comparison against the Blackguards. At the end I switched to the bridge and then went through the 4 options( 4 way switch-I don't remember if I ever mentioned it  :) ) . I used a Laney VC30 on a clean setting and at the very end switched to the drive channel. It is a bit loose as I had my Cat Cleo on my lap-she has to be involved in everything but it doesn't help but I haven't the heart to tell her.

Great clip, nice Jazz Blues there :D

They sound very close to the Blackguards, a little fatter than I thought they might be.  I think if I'd got the Country Boys instead of the BG's I'd be equally happy, they both seem to do plenty of classic Tele tones.

Perhaps the neck is a little less 'stratty' and more classic Tele than the BG but they both sound great!

Thanks-it was a little unplanned spur of the moment whilst trying out my new Cleartone cables. A bit presumptuous of me to compare to your track- what I meant to say was that we were both using the same type of amp. I used my Tascam GT-R1 to do the recording and there are no effects part from the reverb on the amp.

Great clip 38th, Real classic Tele tones there! Have been umming-and-ahhing about getting a Country Boy set for my Baja Tele for ages.  And the 4-way switch is great isn't it :) Having only recently owned a single coil guitar, I must say I'm finding myself playing it more and more in favour of my 'bucker loaded guitars. Magical for cleans, especially on the middle switch setting ...

Nice one :D

I think I agree with tom - the neck is maybe a little less stratty than the Blackguards (I'm gradually coming round to hearing what everyone else is saying!).

I'd say that I think the Flat 50 bridge is a bit fatter than your bridge though - which is kind of what I wanted when I was ordering... so, phew! (I was so close to ordering Country Boys originally - I think if I ever get a rosewood board tele they might well be on the menu...)

Very nice playing as well - I'm trying to pluck up courage to do "naked" clips like this, I'm not quite brave enough to do it yet though  (but it would certainly be a lot less effort than the thing I'm fighting with at the moment )

Thanks guys-yeah playing "naked" is not easy. I still think of myself as a bassist and yet I haven't played bass much of late. Gonna have to practice though as I might have to do some recording soon.

Nice, nothing sounds better clean than a Tele!

But what is this "4 way switch" of which you speak?

Nice tones in there Mr 38th and that's a mean vibrato technique you have there!  :D
Good playing all round.
