Title: New 'build your Les Paul' program site thingy.
Post by: Ratrod on January 13, 2009, 03:21:35 PM
It's better than that Kisekae thingy.

Check it out: http://www.frankmontag.com/hobbys/custom_lp_style_guitar.htm (http://www.frankmontag.com/hobbys/custom_lp_style_guitar.htm)

Here's mine.

Similar to the SG I may be getting made by Wez over summer, hopefully :)

The funny thing is that for many years I was strictly a tune-o-matic user but I've come back to the Floyd in recent years.  I guess I'm trying to get something like the LPs Alex Lifeson used on the last Rush tour with this one....

Here's another attempt, using the colour scheme of the first PRS I ever fell in love with (but had an attack of dithering & didn't buy ):

I've seen this site before and I always love this one when I make it:

Would have that but with string through and no graphics

I prefer the kisakae thing really. control knobs, headstock shape, pickups etc are more customisable

Mine would be a white les paul with gold hardware, cream pickup rings and open black pickups though :D

Edit: loads of typos :?

i like the fact with kisake i can import pictures of wood i have to see what they look like... its a bit cruder but  has more editting ability - especially with the colours and shades of bursts...

shame the LP and SG ones seem to be down at the moment, as tom says we have been discussing an SG build and sometimes its easiest just to throw a mock up together quickly

I'm sure that bridge location would be a bugger to intonate too, the TOM looks perfectly straight

Hey it's just a simple virtual builder... I'm sure if it had the tools to change the degrees of bridge and alike things I couldn't use it, I'm a dumb at computers

OK, I admit it, I'm too thick to work out how to save the image...  :|

Thanks Fernando - not so dumb at computers!  :D

Here's my effort.... wanted to keep it as simple as possible, though I do like a bit of binding (and yes there is some resemblance to a certain Feline):

When I saw the pic (obvius before read anything ) I was going to do this commentary...
Looks like you should go test it

You know you want it...

I was seriously wondering about it before christmas but realised I just can't justify it - amongst my others it probably wouldn't be "No 1". My missus pointed out that the sensible option would be to sell some to get it, and I realised I didn't want it enough to lose any of the existing ones...

And, btw, I couldn't figure out how to get my creation on to here either Philly (possibly a good thing ) - I might give it another go when I'm back at home...

Well, it did have to be based on an LP shape - if I could've, I'd have gone for a set-neck Tele...  :P

If I actually went and tried it, then - assuming the weight and neck shape are right - I know I would indeed want it!   But like you, I can't justify it.  Despite my stupidly large guitar collection, there's not much left I really want to get rid of.  And let's face it, I can barely play, it's crazy to spend that kind of money.

Since I haven't tried it and I'm a "safe" distance away, there are a couple of details I'm not 100% keen on - the block inlays are beautiful but maybe a bit too bold for me, and I would prefer a narrower LP Standard style headstock (I've never liked the wider headstocks).  That's being really picky, but it is £2,000!

I think it's best if it remains a fantasy.
