Just a usual rip off?
-
Who builds it?
-
Doesn't seem that great. Sounds like a rip off to me.
-
fender i think
-
Yup it's Fender & Eddie who hold the production rights but Duncan did the original prototypes and production but were legally bound to never put the pickup into production...
I bet its REVOLUTIONARY and CRASH TESTED and WHAT HE USES and... ohh f**k it Eddie will be pimpin' it with in Guitar World any day now so if you want to read that shitee head to the newsagent..
Here's an idea Eddie... Why not make some frikin' new music?
Oh yeah... Sammie and Mike are doing that and they're losers...
Go hang out with your "bum chum" Matt Bruck who never stops cleaning your colon with his tongue.

Duncan makes these pickups. The pickups in his new Wolfgang are Fender made.

There was a limited number available (200, I think) and they were called Evenly Voiced Harmonic pickups ... get it? Nudge, nudge, wink wink say no MORE! PDT_008

No offense please, but why was this moved in "Guitars, Amps and Effects?" this is about "Pickups", right?

I could be wrong, but I've always assumed that "pickups" meant "BKP", or at least had an element of BKPishness.
Mark.

You said all I wanted to say, bless you. :D

I can't speak for this new pickup as I haven't tried it but I do have one of the Charvel EVH guitars that were made for a couple years (the yellow and black striped guitar was the first guitar I lusted after as a child and I wasn't going to pass up the opportunity to live out my 12 year old fantasies). That Charvel is the only guitar I've owned in twenty years of playing that I wouldn't consider changing a thing on: the neck is perfect, the set-up is perfect and the pick-up, whoever made it, is perfect. I know Eddie does like to stick his name and stripes on everything and charge a premium for it but the only item I've actually bought and used a lot myself I found to be exactly as I would want it, and actually not that over-priced though that had a lot to do with exchange rate in those days.

You can still order the EVH as a production CS pickup from Duncan.
The EVH is NOTHING like this new Eddie pickup. Different windings, magnet. Nothing alike.
Indeed SD is making those new pickups but aren't selling them. Hence the higher markup than for a CS Duncan pickup.

He has pubes up his arse, that are not his own.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the clarification!

No worries :)
The new Eddie pup is in fact closer to the Duncan Custom Custom I think... don't take my word for it though, but by specs it does. But it's a new design.
-
i think i'll stick with my BKP 'fake' VH pickup ;)
-
whats the purpose of a signed pickup if you have to CHOOSE between looking at it and using it?

Its not to PLAY!
That would be silly...
Its to put in the display case next to your $25.000 Frankenstrat replica... :? :?
(if you were actually meant to make music with it, it would come in a BKP box and be called a VHII) :D
-
It will soon be worth twice the price I suppose.
-
If this is supposedly the same pickup as is in the Frankenstein guitar then I have to call BS. According to all the hype the pickup in the Frankenstein was so messed up they couldn't get readings off of it but somehow it magically worked. Now Duncan can make replicas and print the specs huh?

Anyone got the February 2009 Guitar World yet?
EVH gear-pimpin' cover story, as predicted.

Dammit Philly, ya beat me to it! Saw it today, and nearly burst out laughing in the middle of WH Smith.

Which of the four "Collector's Covers" did you go for?
I've got the one with Frankenstein stripes.
-
Oh, I didn't buy it! Just had a quick leaf through on my lunchbreak
-
Got all 4 and also the collectors box set edition that GW released?
Never seen such a smug rip-off since Kiss insisted on doing it

Is there really a collector's box?
No doubt Ed "Mr Marketing" Van Halen gets 15% of all sales....
-
Lots of new gear from him, but it's been a new while since I heard a GOOD new song from Eddie. Maybe he should work on that again instead of ridiculously priced gear.
Or at least finish a tour sober.

That's hilarious. I'm a geeky collector type, I can't deny it - but even I wouldn't buy 4 copies of the same magazine just because they had different covers.
(However, I must admit I was gutted when I saw this month's Guitarist is available with an Esquire on the cover, and I'd bought the Les Paul one... )
-
You can have my copy if you're passing by....

:) Thanks, but I daren't get within 2 miles of that Emerald Lion just yet...
-
that is such a shameless ripoff on all fronts that i'm starting to go cross eyed.
they can churn out any pickup they want to, relic it and sell it for $400 .. noone's gonna tell the difference anyway cos NOONE's gonna play it.. or even solder in, cos that'll hurt the collectability and value, cos it'll be clasified as used..
geez... these EVH fanatics get on my nerves. he hasnt stopped sucking since the mid 80's and he's worse every time he gets his drunk methed up ass on tour. .. ''but he's a legend'' my ass.. he's a lying, drugged up, alcoholic egomaniac, who doesnt differentiate between fact and his own made up stories. and cant play himself out of a wet paper bag these days, yet everyone still praises him like he's the be all, end all of all guitarists alive.
good business man though.. sells his goods quite well. BUT SO DOES THAT WHORE DOWN THE STREET.. only difference is the ammount of money they make
-
Surely, shouldn't this pickup already come with the $25,00 prized piece of shitee too?
If any of the EVH maniacs (I mean the type who'll spend $50k upwards) had any sense, wouldn't it be easier to buy a Vintage Marshall? :P

Actually... to get the right one, the right circuit and all the right parts... it'd be damned hard!
I'd get the new EVH 5150 III instead if it were me... get that sound at more sensible volumes no doubt.
-
I thought the edheads looked for his VH with DLR tone? Surely can't be the new one? :P I mean for crying out loud the 51503 is made by Fender. PDT_028
So the ultimate Edhead has a $25,000 replica, these pickups and a 5150III? Silly....
