Title: My Mules are (finally) fitted!
Post by: rahnooo on October 05, 2005, 08:02:05 PM
Well after several months of waiting for my guitar tech to solder the right wires together I finally got my Epi Les paul back this weekend, loaded with Mule pups.

What can I say? The sound is fantastic, with much more warmth and depth, not to mention an almost 3-D quality. Compared to the stock Epi pups that I replaced, this is a new instrument. Now I never want to play a guitar that doesn't have bareknuckle pups fitted. Looking forward to ripping out the standard strat pup in my lap steel and replacing it with something Bare Knuckle.

Cheers Tim!

Thanks. They have certainly breathed new life into my Epi. I also have to commend you on the fantastic customer support I've already experienced. Cheers guys, I'll certainly be recommending Bare Knuckles to all and sundry :)

Yeha, it was a bit of a saga. Firstly he'd set the neck pup too high so it was choking the strings. Then when it came back the neck pup had a much much lower output than the bridge. And the third time, he'd managed to wire them out of phase. In the words of the prophet, *head desk* All this was exacerbated by the fact that he was gigging intensively throughout the summer and couldnt spend much time to like, doing the job properly. Still, everything seems to be working properly now and I'm in tone heaven.

The only problem is the new pups have highlighted weaknesses in my amp (a very tempramental) Ashdown Peacemaker 60, so I'm now looking to purchase something a little stronger. It never ends does it ;)

I REALLY want a set of these pickups.

They sound virtually ideal for my needs.

I am absolutely thinking of sending off for a pair for one of my Pauls.    Alnico II is god's gift to guitar pickups in my opinion.

Check out the Alnico IV.  Thats what Bare Knuckle usually put instead of Alnico II.

I have some Alnico IV mags from Lindy Fralin kicking around my house.  I can always mod out a pickup myself.

I prefer II

Trust me Archer the Alnico IV unpolished magnets sound way better in The Mule than Alnico II...............Alnico II just doesn't cut it against a decent Alnico IV and since we introduced them we haven't used Alnico II in a Mule since! Our Alnico IV is different to Lindys too.
If I thought AII sounded better I'd use it believe me :)

I have to say, the only problem I've found since getting my Mule-loaded Epi back is that I don't have enough guitars for all the Bare Knuckle pups I want. Still, my Fender Lap Steel should be arriving in the not too distant future and it won't be long until I whip the Strat Standard pup out of it. Tim what would you suggest? I figured the Apache was probably the most suitable, but did wonder about a Mothers Milk instead?

I could have done that for you in the space of an hour, several months is rediculous, id certainly not pay for such a service.  :?
