Stunning! How much?
-
It's nice, but in effect aren't they just bringing back the "basic" McCarty, having realised that maybe it was a mistake to relegate it to the Korina and McCarty II models?

Nice finish!

Yep, I think so! Plus it's a vintage-y guitar, and it's a good home for the new vintage-y 57/08 pickups.
I reckon they'll be £2500-£3000, given the exchange rate at the moment and the fact that these are one step down from the Modern Eagle in the range.
I think that's too expensive for me...
-
Hmm i'm intrigued, ive never even tried a PRS what are they like?
-
Makes my £300 Greco look like value for money!!
:-)

They're very nice indeed :) I can't see me buying any other brand in the future.
-
Get rid of the birds and its very nice indeed :)
by the way, someone on HC is selling this prs, I dont usually like the fancy ones but it looks very nice to me (except the inlay) - http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showpost.php?p=32234646&postcount=89
Not sure how much he wants for it though, but thought I might as well post it if anyones interested..

Ha Ha
Ok well then what is it that makes them nice!
Tonally are they similar to les pauls, SGs Stats? (generally speaking)
And was the neck profile like?
For my sins i sound like paraplegic using a strat neck, but can muster semi decent on a les paul :?
-
It sounds like a cliche, but the McCarty model sits between a Strat and a Les Paul (but closer to a Les Paul). I find they have the power and fullness of tone of a Les Paul, with some of the clarity and feel of a Strat. They have the Wide Fat neck, which is just chunky enough and feels fantastic. 22 frets and warm and round sounding McCarty pickups make it what it was designed to be - a modern take on the old Les Pauls.
The Mira on the other hand, sits between a Tele and an SG. Loads of snap and a brighter tone. Incredibly versatile and superbly priced.
I used to think they were all too fancy looking, but their tone and playability completely bowled me over. They're very consistent from guitar to guitar, and straight out the box they're flawless, well set up and giggable.
You're welcome to try mine out any time :)

Thats amazing!! I love the Mccartny finishes. I've always found the really fancy finishes are over the top and not my thing. I definitely like old school finishes. I really hope they do this finish on more models.
It truely is a beautiful guitar. I'd part traid in one of your korinas for that one!STUNNING!

Can't you get your mate to have another sale on one of those maple-top Miras?

But a lot more affordable than a Modern Eagle....
-
I like that finish, but disagree with the outline birds (I like the old style ones more) and the price tag.
Dave, do you do any pension saving as well?

 this is his pension plan... By the time he retires, he's hoping to have enough guitars so that he can sell one a month and live off that...
On the guitar itself - looks cute, still not for me personally though :D

McCarty =! McCartney

I have a works pension, luckily I can't tap into it to buy guitars
I keep thinking I'd like to try a PRS witha rosewood neck, but I've heard a lot of mixed reports about what it does to the tone.
If the Smokeburst McCarty comes over here at a reasonable price, I would be up for trading a McCarty Korina in for one. However, I still think they'll be overpriced. You can buy a regular McCarty for £1400 (max) and throw in any pickups you choose, saving you over £1000. A nitro top coat isn't worth that much to me!

Sounds like the mcCarty would be for me then in preference to the mira.
Thanks for the offer btw next time i'm up that way i may take you up on it !

At that price I think it had to have a veneer on headstock matching the top or the fingerboard...

+1!
I keep thinking I'd like to try a PRS witha rosewood neck, but I've heard a lot of mixed reports about what it does to the tone.
I would not worry to much, all I heard are: Mahogany tone with a little more highs, but almost the same thing... What are the bad reports you heard??
+1 about the price, can't believe someone will ask £1000 for finish the guitar even on Laquer...
So, you can buy it, refinish, but the pickups you want and still be cheaper (if it comes with the price range you believe it will)

I've heard that rosewood neck guitars do not have the full width of frequencies, are a little darker sounding and have a scooped mid-range when compared to a mahogany neck guitar (all other things being as equal as possible).
I believe they sound great in isolation, and when played with cleaner tones, but in a distortion heavy 2-guitar band they don't 'cut' as well.

I have one - PRS Custom 24 Artist Pack trem with IRW neck. It needs a good setup, though... I've been slack...
It didn't like the HFS/VB set but Cold Sweats do it nicely...
I don't use it enough. My no. 1 6 string is a Blackmachine and I've moved to 7s for band stuff. :(

A nitro top coat isn't worth that much to me!
It isn't worth it to anyone from a tone point of view, it's the thickness of the finish that has the impact not the type.
-
I think that's too expensive for me...
Come on Dave - when has that ever stopped you :D
-
Lots of times! I've never paid more than £2500 for a guitar
-
that's very nice, but at £2500-£3000 i'd be expecting more than a nitro top-coat... :?
-
Exactly!
Here's a quote I've found online:
I was told they are a regular production model, not a limited run. Then I asked about price, curious to know how these are priced relative to the 1957/2008 Limited Run that was priced at a premium due to the (limited availability?) pickups. They are priced slightly higher than the 1957/2008 Limited Run.
So here in the UK , that would be slightly higher than £3500 :o :o :o
No bloody way I'm buying one at that price!!!!!!!
-

Apologies Dave - I've done you a disservice there!
-
i agree on the finish thing, thickness is more important than type... My LPJ had to have a nitro finish just because anything else would seem wrong but most times i dont mind as long as its thin and done well and PRS are number 1 in that respect
-
yeah, that's a lot of money.
i'm not a nitro snob, lots of my guitars don't have nitro (i like it on vintage-style guitars, though- like wez's LPJ, but on plenty of guitars it doesn't matter), but it just seems if you're going to do nitro, why not do it right? especially at that price...
at the risk of sounding like a hyprocrite, i think my edwards has a nitro top coat, but then it wasn't £3500... :?
:)

Good to know that Wez, as I think the same thing :)

I like the feel/look of nitro and the way it ages, but I've never been convinced the type of finish can significantly affect the tone. Some guitars look good with a more "perfect", glossy finish.
-
Those pics looks so photoshopped they almost seems CGI'd
-
I'm liking this PRS very much. I find that I either love or hate the look of PRS guitars, there's none that I think of as just ok. The plain top Mira I love but the flame top one looks so wrong to me. Likewise I think this one looks great whereas the korina one looks awful. Doesn't matter much though as I can't afford any of them at the moment :(

How dare you!!!!!
;)
I love my korinas...
