Compared to the cubes and valvetronix/VTXLs
I need an itsy bitsy amp for the lounge. My VTXL is othewise occupied in the studio and I'm not really interested in another cube.
Metal, 8" speaker is a must. Would like to pay the fire and forget sum of about 50£, but if the vypyr 15 gets a thumbs up, then so be it
Is the Rage any good?
Any others?
Oh, I couldnt give a toss about effects, I just want an amp that sounds OK at speaking volume.

I am literally just about to order a Vypyr 30, so i'll let you know on Wednesday ;)

Cool thanks bud

The Rage is a terrible amp. I had one with my Peavey Raptor in a pack. I ended up using a V-amp 2 into it for all my tones as the amp had horrible clean and distorted tones. I've tried the Vypyr 15 and although the guitar I used was terrible and wouldn't stay in tune, the amp was pretty good. Metal tones seemed to have a good balance of thump and clarity, especially for an 8" speaker. The effects were very, very good at that price range.

Thanks for warning me off the rage.
I'll probably get a vypyr. balance of thunk and clear is what I like to hear. JDC liked them as well. Probably order one soon.

just looked at the vypyr 15, there is no stompbox section so no tubescreamer, pretty much needed that when I tried it to get a nice tight modern chugg
wish I could say if it was better than a valvetronix or not, even if I could I wouldn't say my ears were good enough to really know

you can probably get a second hand peavey studio pro or bandit for that price but i think they have bigger speakers than you want however they do sound great at talking levels

I'd go for the 30 over the 15, 30 being the cheapest fully featured one, and a proper 12" speaker and should sound much better.

Actually the 15 does have a Tube Screamer, just no other stompboxes.

Thanks guys, but a cube 15 I gave away was given back to me because it was no longer needed again
Amp socialism....hmmmm
Anyhow, thats good enough to not spend the thick end of 100£ on something I've never heard.
