Hey guys just thought I would seek your advice on a few amps on Ebay as my parents have offered to buy me one for christmas. Mostly I play metal (Metallica, Maiden etc) and rock.
Here's what I was thinging about:

It seems a good deal to me but I know most of you guys are fans of the JCM800's rather than the 900's.

An anniversary edition, what does this have over normal JCM900's? Plus they are offering service and revalve for free.

Definately easier to carry about, plus my girlfriends mom can pick it up for me, so no postage worries.
Any other suggestions are welcome but I was aminly looking for a Marshall preferably a 80's JCM800.
Regards

go for the jcm800!!! blatantly. every time
-
Have a look at Engl.
I think they are better then Marshall on all accounts, but then again, it depends what type of tone you are looking for.
-
The JCM800/JMP has been on more rock/metal records than any other amp, it has that sound, that's it's voice, it has a few tricks, but your buying the Marshall tone, which isn't in a lot of the modern Marshalls. Oh,if you want to play clean buy an Engl..... :P
-
+1 more for the 800 - 900's don't really ring the way the earlier Marshalls did.
-
Ok the 800 it is for me! God I can't wait
Now all I need are some Bare Knuckles. 8)
-
JCM800 is LOUD LOUD LOUD.
You definitely need an attenuator for home use imo... and an sd-1 etc
it wont get you 'the tone' unless its cranked and boosted... bear this in mind!!!

Attenuator added to shopping list!

Neither, go for a DSL 50. More versatile. And if your in to your Metal, you can get quite a few excellent metal tones.
The deep switch is cool for adding some real low end chunk.

Ignore the above... obviously tone deaf. (hehe, sorry dono  )

I have had the pleasure of owning all of these amps at one point in time and yes the 800 and 900 are classics but the DSL is still a damn fine amp and one which I think would just offer more features wise with a very small sacrifice in the tone area. Like Indysmith though I use a V-Twin pedal for that something extra..so the question is are either of us that happy with our sounds..because surely if you've got an 800 you don't need a pre-amp?
-
Actually you need a pedal or some kind of boost to get the best out of an 800 8)

So therefor go for the DSL50 as you don't NEED any further pedals, I am just greedy.

Contrary to poular belief, new Marshalls are pretty good.
So good in fact, I'm getting a TSL :D
Andy!
-
Good man. I agree new Marshalls are extremely good, I think to be honest if you like Marshall...you like Marshall. :D
-
Look at the output transformer.......it's smaller than some manufacturers 30w units on a 100w head....
-
jcm800's are boring without pedals - they are like the ULTIMATE blank canvas for creating pure sexxx
-
I've already put a bid in on JCM800 so hopefully it will be mine by the end of next week!
-
yeeeehaw - we're all proud of you. You won't regret it

i saw you on that one on ebay! i was tempted to bid but i thought it would be a bit harsh, and besides he wont deliver to where i live :D good luck man, hope you get it and love it!
(if not, sell to me - not _tom_...he's only young, he has time to find another one  )
-
Looks like I wont be selling to anyone, because due to being out of the house I lost the auction. By £10!!! This is prbably a silly question but does anyone know where there are any good JCM 880 combo's going for a reasonable price?
-
ah man, thats not good news :( sorry to hear that.
if its any comfort, when i lost out on ebay like you did, you cant say for certain you lost out by a tenner. That guy who won could have put in a maximum bid of like £100 more or something, you never know. Its not much comfort, but it may help.
Tim's selling his JCM900 combo, in 'Seconds Out' if thats any help.
-
Cheers Willo, I'll go have a look at Tim's amp.

Just saw this on EBay:

What makes the Anniversary Model so special? Is it any good?
-
Aren't the Anniversary ones the re-issues, ie, not vintage? Just a wild guess! You should try and get that, good price from the looks of things.
-
i dont think anniversaries are re-issues. they aren't vintage, they are jcm900 :? never played one though.
-
Ok so i won the auction for The JCM 900 for £360. Is that a good deal?
-
THat's not a bad price, my local second hand music shops are asking 400-500 for JCM900s, 500-600 for JCM800s
