OK so I fitted my bareknuckles on the weekend :D
Of course I had to put new strings on (the first time I have changed them on my cyclone since I got it).
They are 6 in a line vintage style tuners.
The tuner for the low E string kept tightening up after one rotation and refusing to budge (I didn't want to push it any further as it felt like it would break under my awesome strength).
Has anyone encountered a problem like this?
It is best to change them for something different ? (I quite fancy the idea of locking tuners but I dont want to have to bore out the holes)
Any suggestions?

very very odd.... i think something is very wrong
what gauge are you running?

Had problems with the Fender vintage tuners on my dad's Mex Strat - gear stripped on the A tuner. Fitted a set of these http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/product/Gotoh_Locking_6_In_Line_Vintage_Style_Nickel_SD91-05MNMG and didn't need to bore out the holes. I know they're out of stock at the moment, but hopefully that should give you some idea of what you're looking for on the locking front.

since they are vintage style take off the cover and see if the gear is wearing badly, happens sometimes on cheaper tuners, i had a guitar the other week where one tuner gear had lost half its teeth - that was on a really cheap guitar though.
maybe its some build up of cr@p so give it a clean out, If the gears look fine put some oil on and give them a good turning - get a string winder on it and gives it loads of turns to work it in

as others have said, i've had that problem before for 2 separate reasons... although this was on an old acoustic so it could be irrelevant. one reason was that the tuner was loose and the gear was popping out of line. the other reason was that they just needed to be greased up.
