Title: Tele bridge pickup hum
Post by: FernandoDuarte on January 19, 2009, 08:56:53 PM
Hey guys!

Have just made the wiring of my Tele with my dad... I noticed when I played thru the amp that the bridge pickup has more hum than the neck pickup... is this normal??
The wiring seems pretty much ok my dad works with that stuff since before I born...
BTW: have never a Tele before...

Thanks!

Do you have a ground wire to the bridge plate?  Also do you have all the grounds going to one place?  Both of those can help with decreasing hum.  Tele pickups will him, and the bridge more than the neck, but you should be able to ignore it.

Oh yes, it's ok when I'm playing, but I just noticed that it was a little higher on bridge... as far as I remember, all grounds were ok and I did ground the bridge... May be hard to know it now as I wrongly used the screws to attach the neck to put the bridge on place

If you get a chance, check out these links:

It has great info on shielding, grounding and hum reduction for single coil equipped guitars. The last one is for Strats, but goes into more info on the central grounding point. Hope it helps.

I've never really noticed, but I'd guess the neck is a bit quieter because the metal cover provides some shielding.

Thanks guys, will give a try to take the screws off and see if I've shielded it... I think I did, but better be sure...
