Title: Racism :(
Post by: Spitfire on January 22, 2009, 06:05:43 PM
This is the sort of maronic thing that really gets my back up... hear all the peaple chearing for them!!

this sort of racist bullshitee does my head in, they will harp on about the slave trade... its not like anyone alive now was a part of that!

take a look HERE (http://www.foxnews.com/video/index.html?playerId=videolandingpage&streamingFormat=FLASH&referralObject=3459525&referralPlaylistId=949437d0db05ed5f5b9954dc049d70b0c12f2749) at what im on about.  Im thinking that Barak isnt aiming for this sort of behavior.

i really believe that their is more casual racism coming from the "black" community than the "white".  Their are fanatical racists on both sides but it seems acceptable for black people to express casual racist comments in the media where as anything slightly leaning towards possibly being racist by a white person is jumped on.

anyway thats it from me on this... its one of my pet hates... i do not dislike anyone for the colour of their skin, but i hate someone who acts like this with passion.

Yes, this annoys me too. The fact that they can get away with it because of what happened years and years ago when they weren't even born. But there's not much that can be done tbh.

I don't find what they said remotely offensive.  What is it that they said that you don't like?  Are you a fan of George Bush?

Is it worth noting this is a video from the most right wing show on a right wing news channel?

I think its quite racist that the World is getting very excited that its an affro american male becoming the POTUS. I don't give a shite either way, as long as their morals, and beliefs are what is neccesary at this time.

And for Obama to bring up his Grandfather being tortured by the British army, and that it was slaves that built the white house is quite wrong.

On a brighter note,  I went to see the film 'role models' last night, and there was a racist as hell 10yr old black kid, I wish I could quote him :D

I disagree completely. It's a collosal thing that a non white man has been elected President of the USA, a country with more institutionalised racism than anywhere else in the Western world., in fact, this is quite possibly the first time in several thousand years when the most powerful man in the world hasn't been white. That's a bit of an event.

It's really a landmark event of the calibre of the end of apartied in South Africa and Mandela's leadership, only America hasn't elected a terrorist.

I don't personally find it "offensive" as such, but they are saying that a black president is preferable to a white one.

the term "white lies"

I think the rapper's are being provocative to achieve notoriety. I don't think Bill O'Reilly is in a position to make too much of a thing-he has said some pretty offensive things in his time ( like the time he got himself all confused about a Nazi WW2 atrocity that he attributed to US forces). I think the rapper's comments are out of order but I think you'll find that the vast majority of Black people do not take it seriously. Extremists take small "truths" and make them into big lies to suit themselves and to justify their point of view.Fortunately most of the population on this planet want none of it and given the chance, would live alongside one another and tolerate each other.

Sure, I agree the comments are provocative but it's no cause for offence though, surely? As a white, middle-class Englishman who has never missed out on an oppertunity because of racism, nor indeed been on the receiving end of any racism at all, it is difficult to emphasise with how this appointment has effected the black American population.  However, I would imagine that the poorer sections of the black community largely feel that they have been less than equally represented by previous governments, and so look to the appointment of a black president as a change that can only benefit them because someone that is 'one of them' is more likely to address the issues that affect them.  Therefore I think it's only natural that they are saying that a black president is preferable to a white one.

I think that the term 'white lies' is a pretty harmless one.  I take it to mean lies told by white politicians.  Sure, there's no reason to add the 'white' to it, because as Colin Powell and Condi Rice have demonstrated, black politicians can tell lies just as well as their white colleagues.  But then again the vast majority of the politicians are white, as are the majority of people in any position of power.  Also the standard of living for the average white American family is higher than that of the average black American family.  It's understandable that there's going to be some ill-feeling there.

I had a point when I started typing this but I'm buggered if I can remember what it is now.

of course the vast majority of people dont take the comments seriously.. but that does not stop them being wrong.  Its the one rule for one and another rule for another i dont like.  If this was a white public figure saying anything close to what this rapper said they would be plastered all over the papers as being a racist (which has happened, jade goodey for one.. i do dislike that woman, but the comments she made were the same if not less racist than some made previously by one of the black housemates on that damned television program).  All i like to see is equality.

like the whole women can wear just about what they want in the work place however men have to wear a shirt and tie...

If we're talking about the media in the states, wtahc some more Bill O'Reilly. He get's to be as bigotted and overtly right-wing as much as he likes without getting a hard time from anyone other than the overt left and satirical programmes.

i didnt listen to the american commentators on that program, i only watched the first bit with the rappers.  I dont really care what some american tv and radio host has to say tbh.

Well don't give us the one rule for one and one rule for another stuff then?

women don't really have it all equally either, not by a long shot.

plus the "being able to wear what you want" is a double-edged sword, as it's much harder to choose what you wear. men can look like cr@p and blame it on tradition or being forced to wear it.

I don't care about that rapper shite, they say all sorts or cr@p like that in their rubbish songs anyway, but this women can wear what they like and men can't thing has pissed me off for a very very long time, especially the tie part.

Though i will say, what the hell else would men wear that looks smart and professional? not much, mens fashion is utterly boring.

I don't mind the suit, i just hate the tie...  if the tie was made optional (and it SHOULD) then i'd not be fussed at all, either that or force women to wear one too.

I hardly ever wear my tie, just suit and shirt.

Being honest, I'm getting sick of hearing the term "first black preseident" on our news.  I understand that he's the first black person they have let in the white house who wasn't carrying a mop, but now he's just a president and should be judged as such.

I couldn't open the vid, so can't really commment on that.  But as probably the only white guy I know who has ever had racism against him (back in Sweden), I can safely say that racism in either direction should be stamped out.  Although we can keep the jokes, they make me laugh (including black peoles jokes about white people, jokes about the Irish etc)

I'm getting a bit fed up being called an infidel pig. I'm getting a bit fed for being blamed for slavery while there is a fair chance my ancestors lived in serfitude.

It's not just the white people who were involved in slave trade, you know.

Yeah, it's really just a matter of time scale.  We could probably all claim to have "slave names" too, if we could trace our ancestry back far enough.

yeah, and not all whites profited from it either.

you guys pissed off with ties, i'm sure you can wear women's clothes to work if you wish, there's probably an EU human rights regulation on it...

;)

EDIT: to get serious for a moment, i don't like ties, men's fashion etc. either, but to say women have the long end of the stick is at best misguided, and at worst, plain wrong. men aren't judged on how they look (by and large), we can just get ready in about 5 minutes if needs be. not the same for women.

I think that the rapping was stupid but I wouldn't take it too seriously-like I said before, most would dismiss it. It is a bit rich though that "Bill O" gets on his high horse. He is perpetuating it for his own reasons. If he cared about racism he would condemn all racism wherever it was directed.

The start of American Psycho :P my old neighbour idolised that, has more foundation than his girlfriend, and has a two hour routine every morning.
