Title: How to disconnect the tone pot from the electronic circuit (Les Paul)?

Hi BKP lovers,

Question:

How can I disconnect the tone pot from the guitar circuit? I want to clear up the neck pickup a little bit + I want to hear the pickup at its full potentional, without the cap influences.

I'm doing this for the first time.

Do I have to remove the cap between the volume pot and tone pot in its entirety? Or do I only have to disconnect the cap on the tone pot?

It's the standard, basic Gibson wiring.

It's dead simple.

Remove the cap at the volume pot end.  It'll be attached to the left hand or centre lug of the neck volume pot.  Just unsolder it, bend it out of the way and tape it up, making sure none of the cap legs touch anything other than earth wires.  Then you're good to go.

Wrapping the whole cap in masking tape or something will be good enough.  You could also completely remove the cap at both ends if you wnt to physically remove it from the guitar.  Everything else can stay.

Thanks, I removed the cap at the volume pot end.

It definately opened up the tone a bit, especially in the highs.
