Title: Pickups for metal
Post by: knuckle on January 26, 2009, 08:33:49 PM
Hello all!
I'm new here and I'm attending on buying 2 new humbuckers from BK.
I have a Jackson DK3.
Mostly I play metal (death) and therefore I'm looking for a suitable choise.
I need something heavy, brutal and tight.
Something that will blow me away.
If theres a nice tone I can get with that humbucker it will be great.
So what do you advice me to put on the bridge and what on the neck?

Cpig bridge, painkiller neck. Now go forth and destroy!

Painkiller set. Or Painkiller bridge and Cold Sweat neck. Cant beat the Painkiller for tightness.

Nailbombs are a bit looser, Cold Sweats are still quite hot but more rounded (and lots of people recommend the neck pickup because, well, it's really nice).

Painkillers are tight but quite full toned. Miracle man bridge is uber-tight, but thinner then the PK. The C-Pig you'll exchange some tightness for more brutality (think SD Invader but way more organic)...

Listen to some clips. You won't really go wrong with either PK or C-Pig bridge, with the PK being more of a precision instrument!

Nailbombs and Cold Sweats are great pickups but not what I would recommend for Death Metal...

Painkiler: Extremely Tight, lots of mids
Miracle Man: Tight, scooped, chuky low end
Ceramic Warpig: Brutal sound, highest output

so out of PK, WP and CS, what 2 would you suggest and in what setting?
By the way... what the "leg" means?

MDV was spot on with his suggestion (as ever, eh?!) C-Pig and PK for you, my boy :)

PS call Tim at BKP for his suggestions!

Not sure about the sound clips, you could try putting them on a third party website and linking to them, though.

Instead of calling Tim, why not drop him an e-mail instead ;)

No they will do any cover you want. Just ask when you order.

I have a Jackson DK3 with a floy rose... i guess the right spacing for me is 53mm?

yep. 53mm for a floyd.

And get 4 conductor. That way you have more options how to use it, though you dont necessarily HAVE to use the extra conductors.

All neck's are 50mm, so when you ask for 53mm spacing set, it means that you get the bridge pickup with wider spacing, and the neck pickup with standard
