There was an article on the BBC web  today announcing John Martyn's death.  He wrote some great songs and I saw him live several times (including the memorable tour with Paul Kossoff).  I guess the time has come for him to lay his head down on his own.

That's a shame, the world has lost a great performer and songwriter......

Solid air is one of my favorite albums.....

One of those artists I always liked on things like The Old Grey Whistle Test but I never actually bought any of his records.

Not too surprising, I suppose, given his recent health issues.

That is bad news.   I was listening to Solid Air the other day.  Played "May You Never" as the first dance at the wedding too.   :(

well, i'm here in new york on business with some friends/co-workers...

anyway, heard about john martyn's stuff on friday, and now hes no longer with us. irony maybe, call it what you will, but surely a great song writer.

Me too  :cry: The most unbelievable concert of my life was John Martyn in Brussel, in 1976 (7?).I saw him live,many,many times but nothing compared to his accoustic-guitar days (btw.I love Danny Thomson too)..I bought my Echoplex because of him  :?It will be difficult,for the younger generation,to have an idea of what J.Martyn was capable of,on stage, in the 70's...But this quatuor (4 distinct LP) is a good start,esp. if you can find the original LP's (no MP3,please..):"Solid air","Inside out","Sunday's child" and "One world"...I was so "moved"by his death,i spent hours on YouTube etc..RIP.

I never saw him live - but have to say that "Solid Air" helped me to remove the underwear of quite a few fellow students back in the early 80s.

I don't know whether it would work on the modern young lady... but it was PERFECT seduction music back then (except of course you had to get up to turn the record over in them ole days :lol:), it didn't matter what sort of music they were into, Solid Air removed clothes...
