Ive been playing Bass for about 4 years now and I recently decided to take up playing guitar as well. When I saw this I HAD to get it... So the nice people at Sounds Great music sorted me out with one!
Ive been a massive fan of H.R. Giger's art work for years and I must say when I see the words "graphic print" to describe a guitars finish Im usually appalled by the result, But this was different.
I couldn't think of better pickups than the Warpig humbucker set to compliment the guitar... They sound shockingly good.
I know recently there has been a debate over Ibanez's quality, but I can say this guitar is faultless, it plays exceptionally well, and for the money you can’t knock it.

extremely beautiful axe man
congratulations
do you have any problems of detuning using this new BRIDGE by ibanez?
i heard you have to do some trickys to solve a problem etc. don´t know
ibanezrules.com or a similar site talked about it.
and.. before installed the warpigs.. did you feel any loss of sustain with the original pickups?!
Hails
J.P
ANY CHANCE TO POST SOME SOUNDCLIPS OF THE WARPIGS withfull distortion and METALIZED riffs?
is it tuned standard?

The original pickups were horrible; they had little power and sounded very dull. I haven't had a chance to de tune it yet as I only got it yesterday; it’s tuned to E flat at the moment. I will post some clips up soon.
-
WOW!!!! Congrats Steve that is an absolutely awesome axe, very beautiful!!! Welcome to the world of guitar playing.
-
Nice Steve - you didn't waste any time 'piging it did you!?
-
Looks cool with the 'pigs man!
-
Man I would of grabbed that just as fast of you probably did!
-
Thanks guys. Its very strange playing the guitar after playing bass... I haven't held a pick in about 3 years! Any one who wants to try out the pigs can have a go at music live!
-
That is very fuc!<ing cool!

Nice looking guitar Steve! Especially now it's got some 'pigs in there. :D
Always loved Giger's work since I saw Alien many a moon ago, and then seeing more of his work on album covers, like Celtic Frost's "To Mega Therio" and Carcass's "Heartwork".
-
:D Congrates Steve ! Looks positivley Evil with the pigs in !!
:D 8)
-
He'll be posting a shred version of Kumbaya soon. There won't be a dry eye in the house.
-
Sick lookin' axe. The pigs look great in it.
I noticed you have the pole screws screwed way in. How does that affect the sound? (Mine are sticking out.)
-
I love my ESP, I like it better than guitars that cost 4 times as much. Can't wait to put VH2s in it! I just like the feel of those guitars, plus I customize things anyway and if the wood and tolerances are good, a $450 guitar can sound like a million bucks with a few hundred in mods....

We found screwing the pole screws further in allows you to get the whole pickup closer to the strings, gives you a touch more bottom end and clarity.
Gigers sculpture on Heartwork is cool... Ive always wanted to go to the Giger museum in Switzerland.
-
OK. I'll screw in the allen bolts on mine and see/hear what happens.
-
Heres one of mine that my friend airbrushed in a Giger style
I too love the look of his work
The knobs were skull knobs to go with the whole Alien concept
"In space no-one can hear you shred!!"[/b]

NIce guitar, beautifull artwork. Uhhmm......that lower horn.....is that the alien's uhhm....you know....reproductive organ?

OMG!!!

Thats so funny. Gigers artwork is very hard to reproduce. Ive never seen a guitar with it done correctly, except the new Ibanez range.
-
I love your new axe Steve - it's awesome looking!!!! :P
-
I certainly is very kewl!!! i'd love to see it in the flesh!

ahahahahahahahah ROFLMAO
-
yep, you certainly are a comedy
-
i suddenly need a geiger graphic =/
-
I would like the Iceman version one day. Ive got a few of his prints and a big pile of Gigers books, so when I saw this I had to get one! Im oging to be posting a clip in a couple of weeks, Im going to do a ceramic 7 string warpig one too.
-
Thing is, don't most of Giger's pictures have a penis in them somewhere?
Andy!
-
Oh, nice guitar too mate :D
Andy!

Thats sounds interesting, nice guitar!

Not all of them, but he draws alot of inspiration from the human body.

well there is an obvious sexuality to his most famous work in Alien, for example. I havent really studied Giger, but i did write a study on gender roles in Alien for university...for instance the openings to the alien ship are very sapphic and sexual, being damp and all that, and the pods the facehuggers are in are obviously phallic. Interestingly, its this male sexual symbol that gives birth to the creature...and then John Hurt gives 'birth' too, and so Ripley has to assert her gender role as life giver (which has been taken away from her by the alien), conversely by bringing death upon the creature. Simone de Beauvior once said that 'mother is both life giver and death bringer', and of course, let us not forget that the very centre of the conspiracy to kill Ripley and the crew is the central computer, of couse called 'Mother'. :!:
Anyway, nice guitar man, saw one in a shop today - looks (and sounds, no doubt) better with the warpigs in!
-
Did they really thought about all that when they wrote the script?
To quote Freud:"Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."
-
well no, not necessarily in the conscious mind, but there is a psychological subtext at work - what is it that made them put such penis-like objects in the work in the first place? its all in the subconscious...
-
The subconscious of the creator........or the beholder....
Did the artist paint a penis in the lower horn of that guitar or did I see one in there? :stupid: :gne:
-
Screw them down Ratty and crank the p/up height...........you'll get even more power out of the beasts 8).
-
That geiger axe looks awesome man, especially with those pigs sitting in it! The iceman is decidedly phallic though...was that intentional?
-
Nice guitar Steve. I thought you were a committed bass player though :P

I tried but one of the allen bolts won't go in. (neck side, low E string)
-
Ratrod...
I was going to do this with my 'pig but worried about that happening.
I'm watching this thread intently.. I'm sure Tim wouldn't recommend it if we couldn't do it but the last thing I want to do is damage my beloved pig.
Could we have a scared idiots guide to "screwing the 'pig you love"?
Should I be firm - press down hard and go all the way?
What if I feel some ressitance, should I stop or withdraw slightly?
What if my tool doesn't fit perfectly?
I want to do this but it is my first time...
(I don't intend the above to sound suggestive on anything but pickup modification... honestly)
-
that post should be censored

I solved the problem. The hole in the coil/bobbin underneath the cover was to small. I've ruined a small piece of the thread of the bolt while screwing it down. I had to drill out the hole a little bit and it worked. Pretty scary, isn't it?
I like the sound, it sounds better for stock tuning. There's a lot more 'push' from the pickup. More screaming, less belching/grunting.
-
Nice guitar Steve. I thought you were a committed bass player though :P
I look at bass and guitar as two completely different instruments. Bass is a rhythm instrument, like the drums and should be used as a solid background for the guitar. While I have great respect for super fast solo bassist’s ability, I do not believe that is how the instrument should be used.
Ratrod... You shouldn't be able to damage the Pup in any way; the resistance met will be the screw against the hole in the cover.
-
hehe, until this post came up, i didn't even know yu played bass! I'm definately with yu on that one steve. I'm not usually into solo bass on records. however - it is always interesting and somewhat amazing to see live. did anyone else see that dude at LGS? i didnt know who he was (not up to date on my bass players) but he was AWESOME at solo bass. by the entrance, and that stall selling strings and straps, and lil guitar accessories like that

John Entwhistle used to do some nice bass solos and the bloke from Free. I hate it when producers have the bass really low in the mix. I just think why bother to have bass there when you can't hear it properly.
Sytem's Shavo Odadjian sounds like thunder on their tunes. That's the way it should be man!
-
but but but, 'Portrait of Tracey' is beautiful!
-
Really...
Should I go ahead and screw down the Allen bolts?
Could anything at all go very badly wrong?
I sure as hell don't want to be drilling anything. I don't like to mess up something that is fine in the hope of getting something better without a push.
OK, OK I'm a wuss.

Go for it! theres no damage to be done. The worst that could happen is you could slip and scratch the cover!
-
Thank you!
Consider that 'pig screwed...

I read that somewhere too. Is Malakian a bit of an ego head in the studio perhaps and thought he could do it better?
-
Malkian thought that some of the riffs were too "technical" which i find laughable. Shavo is more then capable of playing those bass lines. However if anyone has seen the DVD which came with Toxicity it is quite funny that the drummer did his parts in around 6 days and Shavo took 6 weeks to do his bass parts.
I wasnt too impressed by the latest album, i thought the guitar tone was horrid. It made me laugh even more when Daron said he that the guitar tone took so long to create hanging acoustic guitars in certain areas of the room, etc.

I was just about to post about the Steve Stevens album cover - having been looking at it last night and saw that you beat me to it.
Giger is amazing....it's hard not to like his work

I play both, and also think a lot like you, unless the bass lead enhances the song, as Andy Fraser's does in Mister Big (Free). I can't imagine the song without that bass part. Having said that, he never loses the rhythmic thread that is holding the song together.
Another one I like is really obscure, I took it to Ben to listen to through his $60,000 stereo system (in the shop :P ). It is Billy Sheehan doing 'Oh Well' - the Peter Green Fleetwood Mac song. Again the bass still follows the song while still being very interesting (and using the whammy bar too!).
-
The Atomic playboy cover was the last albumb cover he was commisioned to do. Check this link for all of them.

I want one of those mic stands. I quite like that Iceman too. Very alien looking. Can't imagine anything else but pigs in those. How about Giger inspired pickup covers?
-
Yeh those mic stands were commisioned by Johnathan davis of Korn... very nice.
I would like the iceman one day. Giger covers! I tried it, very hard.
