Title: hair metal BKP set for alder body?
Post by: ritualhomicide on January 30, 2009, 08:44:26 PM
what BKP humbucker set would sound good for 80's hair metal?

this would be for Super Strat w/ alder body, maple neck & fingerboard, OFR.

thanks

HOLY DIVER! He's been down too long in the midnight sea...

Second the Holy Diver, but the Cold Sweat could also be great for a brighter sound. Another approach could be to go to the much lower output VHIIs.

I found the Rebel Yell quite hair metal sounding, but that was in a mahogany LP Junior type.  Don't know how it would sound in a Strat, but it'd be pretty bright for sure.

Another vote for the Holy Diver - it's great in alder & has tons of fat raunchy midrange grind... :)

Depends on what you mean by 'hair metal'. A lot of bands used the Duncan Distortion. The Miracle Man will cover that territory but with more resolution.

both painkiller and cold sweat have a closer voicing to the distortion than the miracle man
the distortion has a ton of mids
