Title: What can I use as DIY nut shims?
Post by: Pierre on January 31, 2009, 04:58:25 PM
I was thinking putting several layers of paper on the nut shelf, followed by a light, light soak up in super glue, then put the old nut on top..?
Normally a thin slice of maple would do the trick but I have absolutely no way of using this...
No clue what else really... a bit of a business card?

Nothing soft. Try a piece of tin cut out of a soup can or something.

Folded up aluminum foil found in the kitchen works well.

Oh alright... how do I stick this to the nut slot though? Glue as well?

I use the clear plastic from some sort of packaging - whatever's lying around when I need it. I don't think it'll compress too much.

Last time it was the packaging from "King of Shaves" shaving oil :D

I stuck it in with wood glue then stuck the nut on top of it, worked very well.

That's a real good idea! I just bought some graphtech nuts and it came with a 0.075'' thick plastic packaging, which is just what I want. Perfect. Thanks!
