Title: Loop pedals

I'm looking into getting a looper pedal just because they seem like so much fun and if I get good with one I could accompany myself at the open mic nights here :)

Basically, which should I go for? It looks like its between the Boss RC-20XL and the RC-50.

Is there any need for the RC-50? It has the ability to have 3 seperate channels and wav import so I could basically add pre-recorded bass and drum patterns then play over the top, as well as the other fun stuff that you can do with a normal one. It just looks very complicated and perhaps overkill, considering the price..

Any advice?

You know my thoughts on the RC-20XL, as I've had one for a couple of weeks now; but I can't help feeling it's a tad over-complicated perhaps...? I pretty much never use the metro function, and i only ever use one of the 11 available phrase slots. I also think that the input and output level controls are pretty pointless; usually i'll just want to record what i'm playing! I don't need boost or cut! I'll use my volume control on the guitar...

It might be worth looking at the new Digitech Hardwire Looper (http://www.digitech.com/products/HardWire/HW_DelayLooper.php) - i seem to remember it getting a great review in a magazine quite recently (either Guitarist or Guitar Buyer). It also seems to be a rather nice delay!

How do the 11 phrase slots work? can you like pre-record something on slot 2, then mid "performance" say on slot 1, change the phrase knob to 2 and play that over the top whilst still having what you recorded on slot 1 still playing? If that makes any sense...

edit - that digitech one looks easy to use and could also be used as a delay pedal if I got bored of it.. hmm. They also have the JamMan.

Nah it's more like 11 phrases you can record, and then select the one you want with a knob and press the left pedal to play it. It's a bit useless because it has a rotary knob to select the phrase - and unless you're very good with your feet you'll have trouble live.

theirs the akai headrush too thats the one katie toadstool uses live with good results.

The Digitech Jamman is the nads - awesome live as well. With a large CF Card - loads of loops.
