As always with these boutique pedals, I just can't imagine paying that kind of money.

It's different with guitars, because there's a visual/tactile element which I'm prepared to pay for.

But all a pedal has is its sound.  And no matter how good that sound may be, I can make it sound shite.

I know a guy on another forum that built a centaur- not bad sounding and probably cost £15 in components.

its true there are various schematics online, but how to verify them?

It's a great pedal. Buy it!

Who cares about the cost? It's how much value it has to you!!

Not really true, the Klon is actually a new design, not just a ts808 derivative. demo of the clone (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtsIo9wLzGg)

Looks as if you're paying a lot for the 'screen printing'/case. Seems lots of maufacturers are 'gooping' the electronics to hamper reverse engineering.

It's my fault gwEm wants a Klon.  When he was over he asked me about it, so I let him try it - fatal.   Mine is one with the Centaur, but bought when they were just merely expensive, and when the gold and maroon case was standard!

Kudos to the people that buy them cheap and sell them on for a profit down the line and I'm always in awe of the marketing machine forever creating un-obtanium available to people with that kind of money... maybe I'm just a tight bar-steward lol but I wouldn't spend that type of money on something I need to stand on and that would get kicked around.

I once saw a job advertised for reverse engineering.  At least they were up front about it.

That's a different animal altogether - it is a send return switching box, the Klon is an overdrive.

I'm glad somebody's cleared that up!  :)

I was reluctant to comment given my general ignorance of pedals, but I even went and read the manual for the Klein-ulator and couldn't see any Klon-alike features.

It's a Dumbleator clone isn't it? Larry Carlton talks about them on one of his instruction videos.

Ridiculous, I would never waste that much money on an overdrive pedal. Theres no way it'll sound £500 good :P
