Warmoth have updated their website:
http://www.warmoth.com/Default.aspx (http://www.warmoth.com/Default.aspx)
It seems to have all sorts of wizzy new animation and stuff, but every page takes forever to load.
And half the features don't seem to work on my antiquated PC (just minor things like logging in and shopping baskets). :(
-
Yes, it has been talked on their forum, also the guys from forum helped them, showing some mistakes...
I thought it was slow first, now it's about as fast as it was...
You probably saw that they increased their prices too... on the average body/neck it wasn't big thing, but on the Carved top it is... :?
I think that there is someplace there to comment the troubles with their webmaster, if you have the time...
-
They just made everything black and grey and copy pasted the information. Plus the whole loading windows for options is going to piss me right off.
-
I like it. Needed doing.
-
Maybe I need to clear out some cookies or something. It's just not working for me.

Cause it's shite.

Woah, they really unleashed the photoshop filters there... it needs some polishing, for sure.
Nice to see who's using warmoth products though.
-
is it just me or is it kinda the same but with a black background and slightly more upmarket menus?
-
At first I thought it was inconvenient and took too long to load.
Then I saw that split Jazzmaster thing and came. It's not all old stuff, it seems.
-
There is some new stuff, not as much as I would like
But ok, they are very conservative on the way that only put something to sell when they're 200% it will works
-
oh man.. this is such a gorgeous colour!!!! so drool worthy

put a no inlay maple/maple neck on that, chrome hardware and i'd want to have babies with it! one of the most gorgeous colours ever!!
this one aint bad either, but i'd hate to ruin it with a pickguard

Thats probably the most gorgeous tele i've ever seen, and i have to agree it'd be a shame to cover it up with a pickguard....
so why not ask them to make a pickguard out of the same top and bookmatch it central, and paint it the same with a black outline.
that blue one kinda looks like it's got two eyes... cooool!

I'm actually enjoying one new aspect of the site, this 'modern view' on the showcase, it's great, like the itunes/ipod flip thing.
Are showcase bodies and necks cheaper than normal? they seem to be good value... and some, utterly gorgeous.
There are a few that if i had the money right now, would be bought for sure!
-
I'm not in love with it.

I think the Showcase is cheaper than getting something built from scratch - if you look in the "Paint" section a solid colour on a Strat body is $185, but there are ready-finished bodies in the Showcase for as little as $260. There's still some mighty expensive stuff in the Showcase though!
Personally I'd only buy a body from the Showcase - I'm fussy about the weight and the appearance of the wood. I might custom order a neck though, since they don't have much choice in the Showcase if you want a '59 or SRV shape, for example.
Do they still have a Wishlist option on the new site? I can't find it anywhere, and my old Wishlist has disappeared.
-
not keen...
where is that orgasmic split jazzmaster btw?

Think you're really happy with it, right? will help you on your "no-new-guitar-in-2009" war :D
Not sure if has a Wishlist, haven't surfed much on the new site yet...

Not if you want a Les Paul body, it's like $750 for the cheapest.

It is, ask for the same configuration on a custom order and you'll see :D A burst finish is $250

It doesn't count as a new guitar if you've already got some of the bits!
There is a Wishlist bit in "My Account", but I can't work out how to add anything to it.

Yeah! If you already have a body and a neck and buy then 3 new bodies and 3 necks to see which ones matches better, that's not new guitars

That does quite accurately sum up exactly what's happened..... :(

Warmoth needs to introduce a few more body shapes; surely if it's worth having two V shapes, they can add a Destroyer, Mockingbird or Kelly in there as well. And you'd think they'd have added an obviously Dean inspired shape by now; I wouldn't approve in this case, but imagine how many sales the Razorbacks would pull in. Oh, the most glaring ommision is probably the Ibanez RG shape. Hell, they could even do a JEM. Oh, and the closest you can get to an ES-335 is a chambered doublecut LP, although to be fair ES-335s are considerably more difficult to build if you do it properly.
They should offer AANJ style neck joints as well. That'd kick ass. And they need to offer routing for wraparound style bridges. And through-neck style necks and body wings.
To be fair though, the catalogue is more than substantial as it is. >.>
-
But overall, like BYOC pedals, you can build a much better guitar to your spec than buying the latest Fen-son Strat-o-paul. Warmoth are great products and the website is all you need.
-
Mockingbird
They had it, but BC Rich asked for they stop doing it...
For the 335 you've the L5S that can be asked hollow with F-holes, a guy from Warmoth forum has a Black Korina body with Indian Rosewood neck L5S, he retired his 335 after finish it, in his own words...
about the Dean, you mean a ML or Razorback? I'm not sure it would sell too much as once a guy from there told me they made a batch of necks with Dean headstock and it didn't sell fast, so they're pretty much not going to do it again, if I udnerstood correctly... You could tell them about when they did the batch and say that now it's more on the trend (depending when they did the batch), but I'm not sure they will do it...
What do you mean by AANJ neck joint? This you relax that you won't see, perhaps only if fender reduses to keep with their contract with them (they're licensed, so they can use the shapes and neck pocket)
I *think* the wraparound bridge is pretty much just the tune-o-matic with no stoptail route... You'd better ask them about if...
Neck-thru is pretty much hard to happen, because the level of building needed is bigger and would be very hard to them to do it "ready to build" and to give waranties about it... Have asked it some times in the last two or three years

Instead of the square Strat heel.

Mm. I was just getting a little carried away.
Still; the effort spent on that site would've been far better spent thinking up new stuff. :\
But, the AANJ is the one thing I'd realistically like to see; I don't see what's stopping them besides the fact that the neck heels would probably need to be respec'd, which would be no issue.
-
Humm thanks Jonny, I still think it won't happens soon, unfortunately... Their changes tend to be slow, even when are saying are trying it, the only answer I read about this kind of joint is "we've no plans to do it"
-
Well it makes sense - at the moment you can buy just about any Warmoth body/neck combination and they'll fit together. Everything is made to extremely tight tolerances and it's all simple and straightforward.
If they did an AANJ, even if they used the same heel shape on every body (which probably wouldn't work anyway), they'd have to offer all the neck shapes with an alternative heel design. Then for stock purposes they'd have to decide how many necks to make in heel shape 1, how many in heel shape 2....
And there's no "industry standard" AANJ shape, so would a Warmoth neck fit an Ibanez? Washburn? ESP? I suspect they don't want to make their lives too complicated.
