Very strange. I think this one is going to polarise opinion. I don't like the Tyler headstock though.
-
Tyler bodies and finishes rock, but the headstocks are ugly.
If I had one, I'd replace the neck to get rid of that headstock, save for one problem; the necks on those things are out of this world.
-
I could live with the headstock, but i prefer a more vintagey looking maple neck, something a little more orange. The body is pretty cool, something a bit out of the ordinary :)
-
I've seen a few of those guitars.. I really like them but the colours on that particular one just doesn't do anything for me! Generally I think they're pretty cool though.

You've said it all!!
How can that headstock ever be a good idea? Maybe it could be re-cut?
-
You could photocopy a Tele headstock and sellotape it on-otherwise I kinda like this guitar but would never get the colour scheme myself.
-
This is the first time i've seen one of his guitars, i see tyler basses all the time but never heard them mentioned in guitar-world... hmm... the headstock works better on a bass...
-
I don't know if you 're serious.. :? but,to me,it looks awful.The colour combination of the pickguard and the fluo-blue pu's & pots+red headstock..brrrrrr!
-
I love it, I'd marry that fretboard.

trace a strat headstock over the tyler one.. i'm fairly sure that i'll fit over it and you could re-cut it to look like a fender
-
A Parker headstock would look great on that.

love it!! 8)

What's with the extremely long name?

It's like the Tyler headstock.
-
I would have this one but with a RW neck. Love the headstock. Looks like one that hasn't been finished to Fxxxx spec.
By the way, the guy who suggested to replace the neck: I suggest you go and play a Tyler neck just once. They are out of this world, really! You would never again make such a suggestion :O)
-
I'm going to bite my tongue.
"If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all"...
-
The neck looks nice but thats it.
The rest...I'll be with twinfan biting my tongue.
-
the only thing i don't like about Tylers is the headstock and it's logo. seems odd to build things of beauty then top it off with such an ugly carbuncle. there are many guitars with boring, generic looking headstocks, only a few have come up with genuinely attractive alternatives to the Fender/Gibson norm, but this one is just wrong! musicman, Brian Moore, PRS, all good. Charvel, dull. Tyler, ooooooogly!!! :)
-
I like eveything except the red headstock - I'd prefer it to match the body.
The Lowell George style Tele bridge pickup is cool.
-
I have payed few Tylers and indeed they were superb but I agree the headstock isn't great to look at. I'd go for a plainer colour too.

+1
Tyler makes great guitars , but dont like the headstock myself
We are intending on using a tele bridge pickup on our Tabby Hybrid project - Tele styling with strat pickguard

Piledriver FTW
But this is not my thing, even I liking Teles (looking forward to see the complete review of this " hybrid shape" by our Tele's Great Especialist: Roo! :D)
-
I think that hybrid look can definitely work! :)

Philly Q has Suhr GAS
Philly Q has Suhr GAS!

Sorry for staying OFF TOPIC but I'm really into the Tele/ Strat hybrid thing now.... REALLY versatile guitar indeed. Add the body contours and it makes for one of the most comfortable and useable guitars EVER!!
Getting back ON topic... those Tylers may have the strange Headstock, but they are fantastic guitars... up there with Suhrs, Grolsh (spelling?) and the like for sure.

 Well yes, but only a bit!
I'd prefer to put something like that together from parts, and have my own choice of neck shape, hardware, pickups etc. I do like the Strat/Tele hybrid idea though.

Spooky, was listening to Rock n Roll Doctor when i read that.
-
That's so wrong it's almost right
Somehow I've come to like the Tyler headstock, it's got it's own thing going on, and you can't deny the sustain benefits of more headstock mass. I don't think I quite like it enough to want to buy a Tyler though.
Jonathan's Tele/strat looks awesome so far!
-
Is it just me, or the light, or the angle of the photo, Johnathan, or are the edges on that really broadly radiused? Not that that's a bad thing at all, you understand.

It looks to me like it has Strat radius and contouring, but with Roo's favourite Tele-like "bulbous bit at the top".
There's a Fender Custom Shop model with a more Tele-like radius. It's nice, but I think the more Strat-like Feline/Suhr version looks better:

I've seen this Fender Custom Shop before... I pics I saw of it made me think: "Ok, the price is of a custom shop, but the look is of a MIM or Squier"... The finish doesn't look good, parts, etc... I don't like it...
I like the teles with 3 single but without pickguard, those are ace!

Here is one of ours fitted with Irish Tours:

This looks as a custom guitars! That's what I talking about...
Not that dull finish and look of the "CS"
-
Looks great! :D
But I can't decide if I'd prefer it with a Tele headstock....
-
i like that one a lot

The one we have still in production does have a more strat-like radius to it .
The previous one was a bit squarer on the edges.
The new one will be alder whilst the previous was swamp ash- we had it reviewed and it got a great write up - actually scored better than the Fender custom shop one did
Our cutaway is altered to be the same as a strat so a stock pickguard will fit nicely.
Also we have an all access heel on it for easier top fret access

ugh, just when i thought i had finally beaten my GAS affliction

that finish is amazing... im not so kean on the hardware tho... pickguard and gold hardware.. but that is all changable... and change to a maple fretboard... mmmmm
actually i am really really liking that!!!
-
Just to bug PhillyQ (and show how I like the hybrid):

From a guy from Warmoth forum...
I just don't think the Tele control cavit/plate works best, would be rear routed on one mine...
-
Big improvement having that bridge over the original piece of shite Tele style, it looks great.

Lovely piece of swamp ash!
I still prefer the slightly more Strat shape of the Feline... agreed about the Tele control cavity if he's not using a scratchplate, but I don't like rear routing on a Strat or Tele. I'd have the Strat scratchplate and a hardtail bridge.
Anyway, I like these hybrids but I'm not getting one any time soon. I might put a couple of Strat pickups on one of my Teles, though.

cough If Feline invites you to go have a tea on his shop this pretty much can fall apart
But you could allege that he's taking advantage of your (ours?) addiction  Would be pretty much spot on :D
-
I recently posted this, and I know some may not like it.... but this is fast becoming my go to guitar due to the comfort, balance, feel and sound. I love this one.....

Milk and sugar Philly?

Jonathan will you please stop it! Second thoughts, keep designing and building great guitars. I love that beautiful shape. I reckon it would look and sound great with some P90's.

Yes please, two teabags, one sugar and just a drop of milk. :)
Honestly, next time I visit your shop I'm terrified I'll walk out having bought the Emerald Lion and ordered a Cub and a set-neck Tele.
