Title: NGD - almost
Post by: zf on February 06, 2009, 12:35:04 PM
Just received my long-awaited PRS Singlecut via UPS! Took the morning off work to be home for the delivery.

After unwrapping the package, I had the PRS case in front of me, and an ear-to-ear grin on my face. Well, it turns out both the locks in the case are locked, at least it seems so! And I can't find a key anywhere in the package I received!111 OMG. Is there some trick to opening a PRS case, i.e. am I just dumb? :) Tried to fiddle with the locks for a while but to no avail. Sent the dealer an email asking what's up, if they just packed the guitar up, locked the case and forgot to send the key...

This is worse than any GAS, having a brand new guitar in a case that won't open :D

if feel with you.

that reminds me once when i got my bernie rico, its seems to me that that it was locked, and after a few days of trying and stuff and a few calls, he described me how to open the latch exactlly
just simple move the whole latch onto the left side,
penggg, it was open

WUOAHHAA, how embarresing to me

but i have never seen this kind of latch before, so.. :)
so the trick was to move the whole latch, and not some part of it, compared to my other guitar latches

Im trying to think of something more frustrating than that - but I can't

how annoying!

Holy cow... that seriously sucks! I'm looking forward to seeing it... PRS's are really speaking to me lately... calling my name....

Anyway, I did a gig last November and we set up... sound checked a couple of songs using my back up guitar, then I went to get my #1 and the combi lock digits had turned! Do you think I could remember the bloody number? Luckily I never broke a string or whatever but what a dick... got the numbers in my phone now!!

They won't be locked - the key is inside in the case pocket.  There are two different types of catch on the case:

1)  A central clip you need to flip up using the lip at the bottom.  This will be near the handle.

2)  The two side lockable catches are circular buttons and they push sideways - left hand catch goes left, right hand goes right

I'm guessing you've tried pushing the catches in number (2) upwards or downwards instead???

That's one of the most annoying things that can happen, fell victim to it once myself. Sent a guitar to the local tech who safely secured the guitar in the case along with the keys  :x Had to break the case to get at the bloody thing

Yes... :) I'll try again once I get home. Thanks a million!

Hopefully this is just me not knowing how to open an unlocked guitar case ;) Anyways, hope this thread turns to a PRS pic fest soon! Thanks for the compassion everyone ;)

No problem!  Easily done in the heat of the moment I guess!  Just remember....

* Middle catch first
* Thumbs on the other two, push towards the outside of the case
* Lift, and smile

;)

Called the wife and instructed her, this worked. I'm slightly embarrassed but more happy ;D I'm going to hurry home now! And thanks a lot :)

Embarrassment and my apparent incompetence in opening guitar cases aside, I have the guitar in my hands!!! :)

To recap, it's a PRS Singlecut Satin in Black Cherry, with tremolo. Built in 2007, bought new just now (last one in stock.)

It's an amazing piece of work, wow! The feel is absolutely amazing, the satin finish is brilliant. The bird inlays look stunning. I haven't been a fan of zebra-colored pickups but they actually look great! The guitar was almost perfectly in tune when I got it out of the case, and intonation's spot-on.

The neck profile's wide-fat, and it feels great.

I even took some pics even though I could've been playing! ;)

Oops, those came out pretty big. Oh well, you can see the intricate details better :P Loving the coil-splitting btw!

awesome  :D

I loves me PRS I does. I have been tempted by those satins myself in the past.

Enjoy

Cool case.... oh... there was a guitar in there :D

That look great... is it rude to ask how much they are?

Very nice!

PRS intonation is always spot on from the factory  ;)

I ordered this from the UK and it was £1,468 (approx 1600e at the time of purchase.)

Great guitars those - my prs singlecut trem is my no.1 no question and I'd even consider buying another because they don't make them anymore!

The satin makes all the difference to me - really slinky neck. The only downside is mine is wearing fairly significantly for 1 yr old - diy relicing i suppose

Having played the thing only for 2 hours now, I can say it is one of the best if not THE best guitar I've ever played... And certainly the best guitar I've owned :) Been playing so much br00tal methulz lately that I haven't had time to sit down and appreciate some finer things in life... like the coil-tapped neck sound on this baby, just great! Playing with the factory-set .009s is fun too, since I 'av been mostly playing with .011s and .012s in drop-C and .010 in regular for a long time. Couldn't be happier :) Our dog's been hitting me with his paw for a while now so I'd better take him out for a walk.. then back to playing :)

glad that worked. :)

don't worry, i've done similar stuff, when my edwards came i thought i didn't have the right size of truss-rod adjuster, only to be told online that it was probably in the gig-bag pocket...

EDIT: ooh, nice pics. that's very nice indeed. :)

Congratulations on your new purchase. You made me smile if only because I could easily see myself in your position. Your new guitar looks great.

It's a lovely looking guitar!  I really can't understand why they discontinued the SC Trem, there's nothing else in the PRS line to do the same job except the Tremonti, and not everyone wants a "signature" guitar.

Y'know, I've spent a long time looking down my nose at prs and prs players... and tail between legs I was wrong. I get those looks from other players now though

I think reasoning is that the od SC Trem is quite similar to the Custom 22, due to the thinner body profile. Maybe they thought that just different looks don't justify a complete series in its own right? Not sure though.

The Tremonti however is unique, as it's a full bodied SC with Trem, which doesn't exist otherwise.

I am very much drawn to the DGT, just wondering if its 11s aren't a bit too much for me (usually play 9-10s).

I think you're right Hunter - its the similarity with the custom range. The thing is though, they sound quite different. The singlecut trem has a lot more low end

That's damned nice. Satin Finish owns gloss, I reckon.
