New Laptop Day 8)
I got one of those trendy and cheap netbooks - a Samsung NC10. My old laptop was a 500MHz Pentium 3 with 192Mb of RAM. This is 1.6GHz and I'm going to upgrade it to 2Gb in a few hours. Must say I'm quite pleased with it so far, the keyboard, screen and bluetooth are great. I wish the CPU had a bit more poke for audio stuff, although it can still do alot there. 7 hour battery life apparently, and all for just £300 from Dixons...! I have high hopes for this little machine. It will be great for DJing etc.
Screen is 10", and you can compare it to the size of my mobile phone.

Is it one of those teeny tiny mini laptops? I'd love one, I don't like my bulky Dell one. I like those Sony VAIO.
Gz for the lappy.

yes, its one of those tiny ones... the 9" screen ones are a bit unmanageably small, but that extra 1" makes all the difference and i'm finding it entirely usable so far. might try the 'hackintosh' thing on it. its cool having a modern computer which belongs to me - and in fact its the first new computer i've ever owned! :)

Nice spec for the size gwEm!

I can't quite decide, either your upgrading the RAM to 2Gb or overclocking the CPU to 2Ghz... :)
I really want a small tiny computer, seriously considered building a Intel Atom tiny computer, much like a mac mini and run hackintosh on that as its fully compatible, but i've heard too many complaints about it being less powerful than a celeron processor and that's just abysmal... will have to try one before i build one.
I see these are Atom based too? im tired of having my gigamamoth of a desktop running just for MSN, emails, internet surfing, youtube and music stuff... i used to do a lot of 3D stuff, rendering, image processing and le hardcore gaming but i just don't do it anymore...
How quiet is it?

yes, i'm upgrading the RAM to 2gb, in fact I've just done that and writing this post on the new laptop at a fast speed. the samsung nc10 is atom based indeed. it is a little slow for heavy stuff, but perfectly ok for web browsing, word processing etc - no worries, and its meant to be a bit faster with hackintosh too.
if you want to do a netbook hackintosh you need to search for the right machine. not all the atom netbooks run it equally as well. my samsung for example does decently apparently, but its not meant to be the most seamless one. i got it gambling on it being sorted out in the future. which ever netbook you get, you have to change the builtin wireless card for a specific model. that part as dead easy on this samsung. some of the netbook have pretty shoddy build quality, spec and battery life - its worth trying a few out. do your research - lilliputing.com is a good site to look at
how quiet is it? hard to say - i'm in a noisy office right down torrenting iffy hackintosh files... but i would say pretty quiet - the fan hasn't cut in yet. no hard drive noise.

The NC10 is indeed the best of them, although the touchpad is way too tiny.
I own an EEE, and I'd trade it for the Samsung anyday.

Looks great especially for the money :)
I'd like one of these but I think the small screen would piss me off too much, I'm too used to my 20" widescreen to go back now I think  Lappy keyboards feel weird as well.
Like Adam I bought my beast of a PC when I was really into gaming and stuff but now all I really use it for is internet, msn, music, recording and occasionally gaming. The only time it gets used properly is when using 3D Studio Max, I dont think CS:S pushes it too hard since I used to run that on my cr@p old dell laptop (then again maybe thats why its completely $%&#ed now  )
edit - let us know if the hackintosh works well :) I'm kinda interested in buying one of these and sticking osx (or ubuntu) on it..

So how long are we thinking before Apple launch their own 'netbook'?

apple keep saying they won't do it. i was chatting with a mate, and we think they're more likely to do a weird tablet or something.
