Title: Three singles, help with tone and suggestions
Post by: Baby Joel on February 06, 2009, 08:56:59 PM
I'm building a new guitar, and I need pickups for it. I know I want BareKnuckle, and I know I want three single-coils. Here's what tone I want. I want to get Clapton-esqe blues, Hendrix rock, and I want to get a good solid modern rock/hard rock. I want powerful treble, but not too narrow of a sound. No metal. Basically a medium to medium-high output.
If it makes any difference I'll be having the pickups configured in a 'VooDoo' (Left flip) layout, so the pickup is angled differently. Don't know if that effects what pickups I should get or not, but I figured I'd throw that out there.

Thanks much for the help
Cheers
Baby

Welcome. My immediate response would be Slowhands-not because of the obvious EC connotation but because I think they'd fit the bill-at least out of the sets I have experience of. Perhaps some of the other guys on the forum can add other suggestions. I haven't asked about the construction of your guitar either and others probably will. |The Slowhands have a lot of substance-very "Stratty" but with good body to them.I find them excellent in the in between sounds.

Thanks, that sounds great. I'll be sure to check it out.

For those asking about the build of the guitar:
Firebird shape, solid lacewood body. Lacewoos (If you don't know) tonal similar to alder, but heavier.

Also, do the singlecoils come with pickup rings? Because the pictures look like they do but I can't be sure.

They come with covers (your choice of colour), screws and rubber tubing "springs".  No pickup rings though.
