Title: Calibrated Nailbombs or Nailbomb bridge CS neck?
Post by: kevinr on February 07, 2009, 09:59:36 AM
I would like views on pups for an Eggle Berlin Pro V (trem) I have decided on a Nailbomb bridge, for the neck pup I have been thinking CS as everyone seems so rave about it! the guitar is a bright sounding guitar with no tone pot, the pups will be wired as per std Eggle switching single coil/humbucker/single coil, useing both inner and outer coils, I want  modern sounding pups, however I don't want ceramic magnets! Thanks

The nailbomb neck is a great pickup but the Cold Sweat Neck is just THE CONTEMPORARY BKP Neck pickup becaus it's just that good. Nailbomb/cold Sweat set is a very popular combination so go for it!

If you want a modern sounding alnico neck pickup, then yes, I'd go for the CS in the neck.

Personally though, I prefer the NB neck matched with the NB bridge, just because its more old-school PAF-y character really fits in with the vibe of the bridge model.

Aren't the Cold Sweats Ceramic?

The neck isn't, the site only really covers the bridge pickup. BKP bridge and neck models are usually completely different

Has anyone tried a CS bridge with Alnico magnet?

hi mate. when u say 'more modern' sounding than the NB neck what do u mean? I've decided on a nailbomb bridge for my alder ESP but can't decide between nailbomb or CS neck- I'm looking for a aggressive lead tone with high output and articulare for shreddy runs and sweeps, what ya reckon? Nailbombsound  neck vs CS neck - trying to get a sound like Chris Amott's lead tone of arch enemy?!

I have the Nailbomb bridge pick-up.. and man, it sounds soooo good. It pushes just the right amount of air with great detail and harmonics. You've made a good choice going for an NB bridge. I'm kind of addicted to it actually. I can't play my guitar right now, but I'm sure thinking about that NB sound. I don't have any experience with CS, but if it were me, I'd go with a CS neck just because I like variety.

the cs neck is more fluid, middy and balanced, I'd say more Dimarzio oriented
the nb neck is like a very loud and aggressive Duncan '59, snappy and kinda scooped
the nailbomb definitely matches the tone of the bridge model, unlike the cold sweat neck, which is completely different from the cold sweat bridge model

are you erock from youtube? If it's you I first heard miracle man on your ddigitech gnxr vid- awesome. SO help me out some more dude. Bascially the JB 59 sound good and well balanced in my alder ESP and especially got for melodic leads I like to play, all that;'s missing is a tighter bass response. From your description, it sounds like the nailbomb set is a hot rodded version of the JB 59?! any further comparisions between these 2 sets would be appreciated! thanks

lol no
erock records some great clips
bought a framus cobra from him a couple years ago
he's one of the nicest guys I know from forums
his clips with the miracle man through the bogner ecstasy he had are the best home made clips I've ever heard

the nailbomb is nothing like the JB, imo
considering voicing only, I guess it would be something between the duncan custom and the duncan custom V, but definitely punchier and much more organic than both
the nailbomb neck is much hotter than a '59, but has a similar voicing
I like the cs neck a lot better
I also like the holy diver bridge much better than the nailbomb, but it's not as tight (still tighter than the JB)

For what it's worth, I did the research and question/answer biz with Tim and he 100% fully recommended I go with a set of calibrated PK's for my ESP NT-II.  Sure, different guitar, different wood, but there's my 2 cents.  Should be here this week, and then back next week after the tech does his biz on my ax's.

Peace,
V.

Thanks dude, I'm already loving the painkiller set in my mahogany schecter-V , it's just pure aggression. Love it! For the ESP I've decided on a cold sweat neck because everyone doesn't stop talkin about it and a ceramic nailbomb for the bridge. I've got miracle man set in another V which is beautiful, slightly more organic than the painkillers.
