Title: Martamp v6-20 video
Post by: Lew on February 07, 2009, 10:04:17 AM
There's been a few questions asking how Martamps sound recently, so I made this little clip this morning.

It was done with the cr@ppy laptop mic so it's not amazing quality-too much volume sent it into a spaz too... but it gives a good idea of the tone imo.

513-cable-amp, any reverb is my wooden floor

That's nice.

Pretty gainy, really, given the high-gain debate with Martamp that's been going on here.  Certainly enough gain for my style....

How does it take pedals at the front?

Mark.

Yea, it has some balls to it.

Takes pedals fine, in-fact I have a hbe power screamer for a lead boost and dd-3 plugged into it 90% of the time.

Oh man, I've got gas.
How much did just the head cost? If you don't mind me asking.

Very nice. Enough gain for me too.   Good articulation, fairly tight. Nice work Martin !!   And good playing too, TCPMoD.

Wow, thanks for putting that up, Lew.  :D

Nice playing!

Power's a nominal 20W.

(Aside: does that look like a Matamp to anyone?  )

Sorry for the slowness Matt, desperately trying to plough through my backlog, even as we speak.  :(
Working 7 days a week...ain't self-employment grand.
Not complaining, just don't like having people waiting!

Hmmm - made me think of a Hiwatt  for some reason - only in negative!
Looks great though

No.

Lets face it, thousands of amps look quite similar. It's part of the deal of having a box with a load of knobs on, with labels, and a few jack sockets.  By the very nature of what they are, they will often look quite similar. So, no I don't think your's looks particularly the same as anyone else's amps.

Looks great and sounds great!

Really good playing too, very very good.

Those 513s seem to have a voice of their own, which is surprisingly refreshing.

Thankyou Alan. I thought I was going mad at one point.

A chap on musicradar.com is committed to the idea that my amps look like Matamps. (Which are noticeable because of their chamfered cab fronts, twin grab handles, full trafolite front plates, cinemascope logos etc. none of which mine have.) Teeth gritting time.  :(

Jon, you're spot on with the Hiwatt reference; Lew (or TCPMoD) sent me a pic of a Hiwatt to follow when building the amp.

Great tone.

Great playing too, reminds me why I DON'T post clips on the forum!

Thanks for the kind comments!
Yea the 513 has a cool sound-that was the clear bucker mode in bridge position.
Give clips Bucketshred!!!  8)
How does it look like a Matamp, more like he has his ass in a twist over the name? ... nothing like it at all.

...maybe I should change my avatar back to Lew instead of trying to make clever Zappa references

There a great amp

why'd you change your name?

that sounded great, really nice tone and great playing too... but i suspect not quite a modern-enough sound for me, and maybe a little on the bright side for me too (maybe that's the 513 pickups though). :) EDIT: i really liked the tone when you turned down the guitar volume.

i guess what i'm saying is if i could have 10 different amps, i'd have a martamp, but with limited space and money etc....

fancied a change

The amp isn't that bright, it's because of the way I set it. You probably can't see from the quality of the vid but I have the treb, mid and presence cranked and the bass around 3 or 4 lol

Don't worry Martin - I'm relaxed. The fact that you're busy is a good sign as far as I'm concerned.
