Title: Swollen uvulas
Post by: Ian Price on February 07, 2009, 07:13:31 PM
I am suffering from one of these at the moment. Feeling incredibly pathetic and sorry for myself! It's basically about 3 times the size it should be and in constant contact with my tongue. Not nice as it means I can't talk properly and am constantly having a build up of saliva which is rather disgusting. It is combined with a sore throat as well so happy times lay ahead for Mr Price.

Does anyone know of any remedies for it?

PS this thread is most definitely off-topic!

I think I have a swollen brain because I read the title as Swollen vulvas.  Needless to say I was expecting very NSFW content.

:D :D :D I can see why you would think that. Whoever came up with the name for body parts screwed up on these two

I agree with every post so far.

I would definitely recommend using some powerful mouthwash if you don't already.

I've had a slew of throat infections in the past and using alcoholic mouthwash has killed that off completely.

Incidentally I have two; one large one and a smaller one at the side; probably just cleft by some freak of nature.

How very strange. I would normally ask for photos on something unusual - in this case I won't be asking for them!

Will get some mouthwash on it and see what it has to say about that!

i have a swollen cervical node, now thats a funny sounding swelling!! ;)

just for clarification its in my neck, i am not hiding a cervix anywhere about my person

generally it happens anytime i am fighting off a throat infection, the current one has been around for a couple of weeks now though so its on the verge of being worrying

Yeah, I wouldn't want to run the risk of swallowing the camera anyway...

Well, now I know what uvulas and cervical nodes are, thanks to Google.  You learn a lot hanging around this forum.

Funnily enough, I had what felt like a couple of lumps/swellings on the back of my tongue last week, but they disappeared fast.  Or maybe I forgot about them because I then got a sore throat and another cold.  So far in 2009 there hasn't been a single day when I've felt 100%.  :(

Good luck sorting out your swellings, guys.

:D Sadly I didn' take any pics of it. Not quite so sad is that my uvula is, although still swollen, now reducing in size and I am getting close to my 'normal' voice.

Gargle with hot salt water.

Oh yeah, and some pic's!

Gargle with tea tree oil but do not swallow it! Colloidal silver can be dripped onto the swollen area. Calendula complex ( made by Bioforce). These are the things that Mrs 38th suggests.

Cheers for the responses all. My uvula is now nearly back to normal size. A big relief. Only problem now is that I have suffered some sort of allergic reaction to some tablets I was taking to get rid of/fight a fever. I now look like I have done a few too many hours on a sunbed. Classy.

Anyway - back to work tomorrow so there is everything to be cheerful for!

Ardbeg

Seeing as that response is from you Johnny I'm going to take a complete guess that Ardbeg is some kind of Whisky. I don't even feel the need to look it up on google. That's how strong my suspicion on this one is!

Just got back from hols, hence the rather late response...

I had an inflamed uvula a few years ago (and it occasionally swells up if I have viral infections now). It was hanging down my throat and inducing the gag reflex, which was, frankly, horrible!!!
I could 'throw' up the uvula onto my tongue, which was pretty nasty!
I went to the GP, and she was so disgusted that she called in the other doctors (I never want to hear the phrase 'Oh my GOD! Do you mind if I bring my colleague in to see this, that's incredible!' in that context from a doctor EVER again!).
I couldn't do anything about it, and eventually the swelling went down on its own. Quite uncomfortable!

Hope yours is better now.

Roo

In a different context, it might be something to brag about....
