hello,
I'm new to the forum as well to Bare Knuckle Pickups.
What would be a good pair of humbuckers for mahogany? I play old-school thrash and speed metal...the usual suspects: Testament, Slayer, Overkill, Megadeth, Annihilator, Metallica, Exodus, etc.
The guitar has these specs:
Flying V
25.5" scale
Neck-thru construction
Mahogany neck and body wings
Ebony fretboard
Schaller Floyd tremolo
I'm not sure where to start....
what BKP models?
does Ceramic or Alnico sound better in mahogany???
thanks

Welcome mate :)
Both ceramic and alnico pickups can sound great in mahogany, but for the cutting high end thrash tones generally have, I'd recommend going ceramic for you. My personal preference would be a Cold Sweat set - very clear and gutsy while also being balanced and "transparent" - you can really hear the woods coming through the sound.
That said, the Miracle Man or Painkiller could also suit you very well, depending on taste. They are both very tight and clear, with the Painkiller packing a lot of upper-mid weight, and the Miracle Man focussing more in the low midrange. Both are hotter and more raucous than the Cold Sweat.

+1
listen to this man
he's great :D
for more modern thrash influenced or metalcore stuff like The Haunted, Sylosis, Machine Head or Trivium, the Miracle Man just can't be beaten
it has a very strong and dense low end punch with a throaty grinding low mid and very sharp high end
the Painkiller is wonderful for a dry cutting picking response, like modern industrial stuff and old Megadeth
it's an extremely middy, loud and raw sounding pickup
but the Cold Sweat is a winner when it comes to that 80's crunch with tight picking
it's voiced between the MM and the PK, with a bit less output than both and a hair more mid crunch and transparency to the woods tone
it cleans up way better than the others too
it's great for Exodus (old and new), Annihilator and old Metallica
I love it for Pantera, especially on 'Vulgar Display Of Power' songs
now I just imagined playing the main riff of 'Practice What You Preach' with it
damn :D :D :D :D
