Title: Surf with a Stormy Monday/Apache
Post by: Johannes on February 10, 2009, 09:53:45 PM
Hi guys!

I recorded this little (it is actually very short) surf tune I wrote, using my Bare Knuckle equipped Warmoth (Koa) Strat. The rhythm is played using an Apache in the middle position and the lead with a Stormy Monday in the bridge position. It really would have been more vintage correct to play it all with an Apache, but since my Strat is a lot warmer sounding than a 50s Strat, it didn't quite have enough bite in the middle.

Criticism on the composition, recording, playing is much appreciated!

I liked it - alot!

I am a surf fanatic and to my ears the SM is way too thick for a true surf sound (which in my book has more to do with the brown/blonde amps used) but your tone was absolutely stunning - I'd say its like a surf inspired late 60s garage/psychadelic blues tone - in places (esp at about 33 secs) like the early Richard Thompson goldtop P90 Les Paul tone (such as Genesis Hall on Fairport's Convention's Unhalfbricking) Really good stuff  8)
