Title: The Mules Maiden Voyage
Post by: chris o'donnell on April 22, 2005, 10:58:55 AM
First Gig last night with the Mule in the bridge.

The  clarity and balance was there for all to hear and my volume control has the reflexes of a cat.

Would I be going too far if I said that when you get a great tone you become more confident and tend to push yourself a bit and give extra effort?

Cheers

Chris.

it wouldnt be too far to say that! i remember once i had to audition for a band, but i cant drive so i got a taxi but couldnt take my amp...i was relying on the amp at the studio but it was a total piece of junk. Easily the worst amp ive ever used, and it just threw me completely. my confidence just sunk, and so did my playing...

its good that you have 'your tone'!

Willo.

Strange thing confidence. You have to find a mid point.

Not enough of it or too much of it can have the same effect on your playing.

As for the cr@p amp,I take it you didn't get the gig.

Cheers

I'm really chomping at the bit to get my Kamikaze (Miracle Man/Irish Tour) up and running tonight so I can put it  through paces tomorrow ... that will give me a few days of breaking it in before practice next Wednesday.

Judging by the response everyone seems to be having with BK, I'm expecting killer results!

actually i did get it, but it wasnt really something that i wanted to do, cos it was like Stereophonics and Oasis and i just wanted to kick out the jams!  :D  I know what you mean, though, too much can backfire too. I also went to an audition a while back with all these older guys. they were up for jamming over some Hendrix and Mayfield, whilst i was in the middle of my John Petrucci phase, just happily shredding away with a nice amp! i mean, i played well technically, but it wasnt right for that music...my fault! thankfully, ive matured a little since then! and fair play to the guy who did get the lead parts, he started the auditions and he played simple but perfect for that music.

Well, i try and learn from my mistakes

I find the best mindset to be in for playing has no confidence at all-not high confidence and not low confidence, just to the point where confidence is not an issue at all...a place where your mind is clear and fresh and you can just play.

Amen, exactly the way I've learnt to play over the last five years or so.  I found that I was finally comfortable with my playing ability and it shone through when I played.  :D
