Title: Lookin' for a 2x12 cab...
Post by: OrangutanShoes on October 09, 2005, 03:04:46 PM
Oi oi. I'm back (though I have been lurking un-logged in for quite a few months), and I have a question.

I need a 2x12 cab, something that can sit nicely in my room, practice with and maybe play smaller gigs with (I'm getting sick of lugging my 1960A about everywhere. Ideally I'd use it just for practice and most gigs)...

I was looking at the 1936... But I'm a bit dubious as to what material it's made of. Rumours of plywood arife on harmony central reviews...

Splawn cabs look perfect, and a good deal, but I'm assuming they don't ship to the UK, which sucks.

Anyone have suggestions for another good 2x12 cab? Or is the 1936 alright value?

Ply's good for cabs, Pine's better but you don't want to be too rough with it!! I've seen Cornford cabs destroyed after a fall from the back of a van.....

How about getting Matamp to make a custom  2x12 to you specs? Probably about the same price as a 1936, you get to choose speakers and a better cab too!

Oh, I forgot about avatar. I'll probly just end up getting the marshall... Cheaper then Matamp by my calculations.

Heh, chipboard... My MG412 is made of that... (dont snigger, I needed a cheap cab fix)  I believe the word to describe the sound past one volume is "eurgh". shitee speakers aswell. Although to be fair, It did survive being dropped out the back of a moving car with the only damage being a missing plastic corner protecter. That's going to make it a bitch to sell for any more than £1.50 on ebay though

Thanks people.
