Title: Laney GH50L..........to buy or not to buy?
Post by: James C on February 12, 2009, 08:29:38 AM
After looking around at loads of differents amps i've decided that i want to get a 50w head and 4x12, unfortunately my budget is currently suffering, (its at the £700ish mark) therefore i was looking at cheaper valve amps.

I play mainly hardrock and metal (NWOBHM----> Thrash) and am using a MM loaded Signature LP and a NB loaded Vigier Excalibur.

How good is the GH50L? and what cab would be best paired with in respect of the above, cleans i will obtain using the guitar or a vol. pedal.

They're a great head, superb value for money.  I'd get an Orange or Matamp or Martamp cab to go with it - something nice and chunky  :)

Love mine, it got even better with Svetlana Winged C EL34 valves and a 5751 in V1 in the preamp :) I'd be interested in trying out a better cab though, I'm not sure how well constructed mine is. I mean it sounds great  but its really slimline and un-chunky (dont think thats a word :P) compared to an Orange or something so I feel like I'm missing out on something

I thought that i should buy the head and then take it shopping for a cab to match up with it, i will however be trying to sell my electric drumkit, if it sells i get 2 GH50Ls and 412 and 212 cabs, if it doesn't then i'll stick with the one.

i'm also going to sell off my Harlequin, damn i need a payrise!!
