managed to negotiate a substantial discount too... its a shame that i still couldn't fit it on my credit card - probably for the best though as i couldn't really afford it. i'd love a 70s V though, and this was a fine example... mixed feelings about leaving it in chicago.

It's a '70s V and therefore by definition pretty cool, but I have to say it does nothing for me looks-wise.
-
it was ultra lightweight mahogany, responsive t-top pickups, and the perfect crunchy ufo tone. a sort of hippy feel to the neck. 2 piece body, nicely cracked nitro. maybe a natural 70s v is nothing special (they were mostly natural i seem to remember), but it had the feel and the vibe. i played it for a couple of hours... great guitar, everything i dreamt of.

Looks very nice!!! (but that curvy headstock, prefer the pointy one)
Shame that you couldn't have it...
-
Lots of mojo there. Aside from the cost, do you have space for another one?!
Do the 70s V's have mahogany or maple necks?
-
Very cool.
(But needs a Bigsby)

for the Lonnie Mack vibe eh?
gorgeous Vee - I'd love one, some day.

I was quite surprised the looks didn't grab Philly...!
That is the the V look I would go for if I was ever going to go for one...

I'm never that crazy about natural mahogany - if it was white or black or cherry, even sunburst, it would be a different story. And I don't particularly like the rounded headstock, as Fernando mentioned. But I don't want to sound all negative, I'm sure it's a great guitar! :)
However, for me, it's the '58 style V FTW, every time.

Buy it or stop talking about it PDT_008
Side thought -- I don't think EVH would approve PDT_008 PDT_008 PDT_008

i like the dumpty 70s headstock.
i'm pretty sure all 70s Vs were all mahogany will, don't pretend to be a massive V expert, although I seem to have unwittingly become a collector.
theres always space for one more, and as you point out it was pure mojo :)
edit: closest V I have in feel is actually my feline believe it or not...

oh eddie loves a good V ;) (by the way I don't really like EVH that much, but i've found his early stuff mildly inspiring lately...)

didnt you say you were going to stop buying V's ?

Now that's what I call a V! But look at the way the silly numpty has stuck a ciggie on the headstock.

And the sunburst LP on the floor is all ready to snap the headstock - the back of the body is off the ground and the wieght is resting on the headstock. There are a lot of guitars on stands that could be on the floor!
