Title: stereo/mono switch
Post by: psy on February 15, 2009, 11:51:28 PM
I've just rewired my 2x12" cab to run in stereo.  I want to add a switch so I can switch it back to mono if I ever need to.  I've bought a DPDT switch.  Is this the right kind of switch for the job?  It has 6 contacts on it (3 per side).  Would I just wired to the out side contact & leave the centre 2?

This would help, too: http://www.tubeampdoctor.com/product_info.php?products_id=1233

It would  :P, but where's the fun in buying a plate already wired up?  :D  I'll have a hunt for some wiring diagrams.

You can do it without having to have a switch (in a 2x12), you just need one jack socket that has switched contacts. You then wire it so that one speaker is daisy chained off of the switched contacts, and when you plug into one of the jacks (the non-switched one), you have a mono cab, but when you plug into both, you have stereo :)

(i'll try and draw a picture up whilst i'm in a lecture this morning)

ahh, clever.  :)  Anyway to do it with a switch seeing as I've already bought one?  It'll save me another trip to Maplins :D
