Title: Painkiller, Warpig or Nailbomb
Post by: kylepartridge on February 17, 2009, 06:59:58 PM
I have been trying to decide between these pick-ups for too long now.  I want to replace the Dimarzio Tone Zone in the bridge position of my Ibanez S series.  I need something to 'BEEF' it up and bring in some tight bottom end, I play alot of metal, but dont want a 'mid scooped' sounding pick-up as i want to have a nice lead sound and there is another guitarist in the band i play with.  I play through a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier usually on Channel 3 Modern Hi Gain.
To give you a better idea of the type of sound i want I listen to bands like Pantera, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Megadeth ect.

Pantera, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Megadeth

Pantera = Cold Sweat for sure
Lamb of God = any high output model  :?
Machine Head = 100% Miracle Man
Megadeth = Painkiller (old Dave), Nailbomb (recent Dave, Friedman), Cold Sweat (Broderick, old Dave)

as you have a Recto, I'll vote for the painkiller (more mid push and low end tightness)

I'll second the Painkiller suggestion.

Painkiller from your description of what sound you want.

Band wise

Machine head;
Burn my eyes and more things change - Painkiller
Burning red, supercharger - No. Just, no.
Through the ashes, blackening - Miracle man

Pantera - maybe Cold sweat, I havent played the bridge model. Out of what I have (all the high outputers bar CS and HD) - Nailbomb.

Megadeth - NB

But yeah, given your amp and sound you want, Painkiller.
