Title: Help choosing pickup

Hi everybody

I'm thinking about changing the pickups in my Godin LG (humbuggers) which is an all mahogany guitar. The problem is that I'm not sure which pickup I should go for and I hope that some of you old BKP users can give me some advice.

I'm interested in an overall rock tone that can deliver both classic and modern rock. I'm thinking bands like AC/DC, Guns N Roses, Jet, Rage Against the Machine and Velvet Revolver (guess Slash uses almost same equipment as in GNR, but I find the sound more modern and edgy).

I hope that some of you out there can help me out.

I think Mules would do that trick nicely.

They're vintage style PAF's but they can rock hard when pushed.

I agree with 'Ratrod' - they bridge the gap between The edgier Riff Raffs ( AC/DC ) - and the Softer Stormy Mondays ( Slash / G'n'R ) - whilst pushing the mids alittle bit more and 'kicking like a Mule' when pushed.  I have a Les Paul Standard with them in - and for me they give it it's definitive voice.  :)

Thanks for the very quick responses. It sure sounds like the Mules could be what I'm looking for, but what about the Crawler. Do any of you have experience with this pickup and would it suit an all rocking purpose? As far as I can tell it has some more power than the Mules.

I hope someone can enlighten me on the Crawler.

I have a crawler in my strat, and it is unbelievably versatile.

sweet cleans, but with enough drive to push your amp into overdrive, and great hard rocking tones as you push it further.

It always retains it's clarity. I'd say it's output level puts it at the top of the more vintage pickups BKP do. Definitely for great rock tone.

I have a set of Cralwers in a Yamaha SG. They are very powerfull, big midrange. They are versitile, sweet and fat on a clean setting. They are a bit too compressed for AC/DC and similar 'open' tones. They are great for certain Tom Morello and Velvet Revolver stuff.

So I wrote a mail to Tim asking him about the Crawler and he described it as a fat, organic hard rock and blues pickup that suits strat style guitars and LPs as well. I must say I'm intrigued.

Below you should be able to see my LG which hopefully will be fitted with a set of crawlers in the near future. Damn I wish I was rich!
