Im going to order my calibrated set of cold sweats as soon as my paycheck comes in i was thinking of getting them with gold covers with the bare knuckle engraving but im wondering if i could through something other than gold in there hmm... Its a wine red les paul with gold hardware and cream mounting rings.
looks like this but with cream mounting rings.

Nice looking guitar. Open cream with gold screws gets my vote.
-
Hmm that would look rather nice, From my experience there is a tonal difference between covered and uncovered correct? ive allways felt smoother and clearer tone come out of covered pickups.

...my LP Standard with RY's/ THE pups for THE paul ...tones that kill thru a few Boogie mark amps...EVERYONE ASKS about the pubs....EVERY $%IN ONE
-
Ive been looking at the rebel yells and they are so tempting to buy over the cold sweats... but im really curouis to try a pup with a ceramic magnet after hearing nolly's tone in the black machine i can help but to need it smooth, with bite and clarity ah...
What mark series amp do you have i have a IV right now and am gasing for a IIC+
-
Black open coils with gold screws :P
-
All of the above are nice suggestions, but I would stick with good 'ol gold covers. B.K.P. real gold plate pickups look gorgeous.
( Lovely guitar by the way ! ) :)
-
Does anyone know if theres a tonal difference in covered and uncovered?
-
The conventional wisdom is that covered means a tiny bit less high end, and a little bit less noise :)
For what it's worth, I think you should spring (or try to trade) for nickel hardware, then get zebra pickups, like in that picture. I think it looks great!
-
Zebra would be my ideal look but with the mark iv i have, feedback is a strong issue you feel it in the humbucker mark series amp owners who use gain over 5 will know what i mean. so thats what im leaning towards the covered.
When i borrowed a friends explorer it was a little stronger and noiser (same pickups a slight bit hotter)
his were uncovered mine were covered so yea.... I think gold with the engraving will do it
btw does anyone know where in the order for i can add engraving i cant find that option

I think Shaman is a mesa user, so I wouldn't worry too much about the cover affecting anything, it may just have been sh!tty potting of te Gibson explorer pikcups.
When you go through the order process, there is a little suggestion/comment box at some point, ask for engraving there
-
Sweet will do engraved gold it is but for my music man axis im getting zebra :) promise

Yes, a covered pickup generally has very slightly less treble, but Tim winds his pickups to account for this.
-
Gold just looks the best in the paul so ill stick with that,
Im my axis im going to load it up with either another pair of cold sweats or a ceramic nail bomb :)
But those in zebra

..a great amp to gas for!!I have a simul C+ and a Coliseum C+...
-
I envy you i can emulate it pretty well on my IV but ill never achieve the bite and MOJO!
Im still debating if i want my next amp to be a IIC+, Soldano SLO, Bogner XTC, or a Diezel Einstein... hmmm
There all roughly in the same price range
-
cool..a friend put it best:The mk IV is like a C+ in a tuxedo.....the C+ has that mojo...not as compressed...a wild thang!I have only played a Soldano SLO-its sweet as well, especially with the Warren Haynes mod-it is a night and day difference-good luck on your quest(cool thing about the C+....its a rare puppy that holds the value on the used market and then some....my Coli sold for 1400 USD new...I bet I could get 3300+ for it today)
-
Yea, there insane some people try to get 5k out of them lol.
I dunno im debating for the price of a IIC+ i could get 2 more IV's run in stereo and have a back up!
but at the cost of not having another amp to play with.
-
so true....the IV is a mighty fine amp(owned one myself..), BUT I can say I would take 1 C+ over 3 IV's....however, if high gain is your main interest, the IV works(esp. if you are playing live..dont want the C+ in the smokey bars...)
..always great to meet another Boogie brother 8)
-
Ha high gain is not my thing actually i just like the smooth fat tone it gives which is why in boogie i would only stay in the mark series im curouis to try a road king though.
Have you tried the BB preamp with your boogie its a match made in heaven yet i dont know if you would ever need anything with a IIC+
-
the coliseum is not that expensive
a guy offered me one for the single recto I had
but I think I hate every Mesa amp I've played (the Stiletto is cool and reminds me of a Laney VH100R, but it's too muffled)
and a mark III is pretty cheap and can be easily modded for the IIc+, since they are 98% the same amp

..the coli in question is a C+-a c+ coli is the rarest amp-only 86 made..a III Coli was mass produced
-the circuitry , the preamp, and power amp section, along with the # made versus the MK III, make them worlds apart, actually
-if you are a metal player, the MK III is totally fine in comparison to a C+,but the cleans and in betweens are different for sure-the rythym channel mod makes it a more flexible amp for sure-I am lucky..I live within 20 miles of a couple of Mk III coli's,4 C+ amps, and a killer MK IIB+ as well-bet you wouldnt hate them!!

...yes, I have tried it...I ended up keeping a Fulltone Fulldrive instead(C+, that is..never used with a IV) ....it was sweet..anything that allows you to adjust the treble will jive with a C+..I have a friend who is about to get an Xotic RC Booster..have heard rave reviews..will keep you posted
-
I was thinking of trading my bb for a rc i use the gain all the way off! haha it adds just the BB color and its perfect for a fat/solo boost, when i bought the bb i was debating between the fulldrive and the bb i went wit the bb but eventually i will buy the fulldrive
-
cool!...I dig the fulldrive, with its separate od and boost controls.....I use it mainly as a boost, with a little hair to make the 2 channel C+ into a 3 channel amp
-
Yea thats what i do with the mark IV R1 Clean R2i dont use its fun to jam with but never musical enough for my style of music and Lead i use for rythm with the BB for a solo boost. I have to get a knob knob fixed it broke off so i have no idea where my lead gain is at and i think its pulled its somewhere around 8-10 so i have to roll off alot of gain from the lead drive
