Title: cccccchhhhh. (velcro?)
Post by: badgermark on February 20, 2009, 09:26:17 PM
just a quicky, I have a pedalboard, and need strong velcro. Where is the best place to get some? Either online or in an actual, real life, shop is fine. Thanks gents.

Woolworths used to be great for stuff like that....

I guess somewhere that sells wool, thread etc.  Debenhams or John Lewis perhaps?

It seems something simple, but I can't think of where to go! I've never had to buy the stuff before. I'll check out the department, and maybe art store tomorrow. Thanks Philly.

Philly could you be more helpful?

... you're damn right about the John Lewis bit though. They have a great haberdashery section.

B and Q sell it.

As Martin says, B&Q sell it - I'd go for their heavy duty stuff - it's much pricier but really sticks superbly, especially on some pedalboard surfaces, which don't take adhesives too well.

If it's for use on good, smooth surfaces, then you could also try the stuff you can get in Maplins, which - I've just started using, and am very pleaded with so far.

I bought some from homebase to build a pedal board onceand it was the strongest velco I have ever encountered.

I could tear arms off gorillas easier then seperating the stuff.

For me, the only problems I've had with any stick-on velcro is not that the velcro separates too easily, but that the adhesive does not bond with the surface it is stuck to very well. I have found a considerable variability among different types of velcro on that count.

I got some super-strength velcro from Amazon. It's incredibly/annoyingly strong!

I got some strong stuff from the local fabric place, but having a slight issue. I've been using some thick superglue to hold the velcro to the pedal, but they peel off when i try to move the pedal. What else can i use to stick this magical black strip to my hand built creations?

Use the heavy duty self-adhesive stuff from B&Q. It will do the job superbly !

If in doubt, break out the epoxy  :D

Try it on a a piece of scr@p first though.

As for the B&Q stuff, I go out of my way to avoid that place (and homebase) as much as possible. Had no other option but to buy screws and sandpaper from there once for their absolutely rediculous prices.  I don't like feeling that I'm having the piss taken out me, so try not to go in.  Got the worlds best hardware shop up the road now though, so not a problem.
