I am looking for a humbucker for my guitar - highly figured Maple Top on a solid Mahogany archtop body. I really like the sound of the Nailbomb and the Steve Stevens. I play gothic punk right now, but have played metal and still like to play that and also shred. What is the best suggestion? I like a smooth tone with great attack and a little bottom. I play through an Engl SE EL34 and Engl Pro XXL cab. Thanks for any suggestions!

Nailbomb? Holy Diver?
-
I've heard the clips. The Holy Diver sounded great on the Killswitch tune! Nailbombs sound awesome too..just wanna be sure.
-
Well whose sounds are you looking to sound like? If in doubt, why not try some bks out?
-
I would have to drive 4 hours to try them out. I play original punk, In the veins of Senses Fail and My Chemical Romance. But I also do metal like Killswitch an As I lay Dying, etc. Plus I like shredding ala Vinnie Moore, Yngwie, Becker, Vai.

original punk? my chem???
-
Original as in...we write our own stuff. If you don't like My Chemical Romance ..fine. I don't care what you like..I'm asking about pickups. Ever hear a punk band with shred in it..well, that's what I do. I hate haters...
-
dude i wasnt being a hater... i was just asking whether it was old style "original punk" or my chem.... they kinda have different sounds..... sorry if i offended.....
-
and from what ive heard id say a nailbomb could do bothe the my chem to killswitch sounds....but im really not one to give any informed oppinion.... ask tim (im sure everyone else will tell u the same.... :)
-
it's all good. It's a mixture. We are in 2x4 studio right now (Cory Taylor from Slipknot owns this with Fred Misssouri from Facecage) - Fred is doing our album. It sounds killer so far.
-
Cool, well I like the Nailbomb just for the camo cover...but I have heard good things. Going to buy it today.
-
I keep hearing the Warpig Ceramic is great also..and the Holy Diver???
-
cool... ur recording atm eh? clips ;) ? yh the camo cover is cool.... but i think im guna get a open poled nailbomb for neck... (more presence... cover will add abit of warmth to your tone tho... which i may indeed like) (im going for miracle man in bridge i think... but that probs wouldnt suit the tones ur asking for the best ... would be great for killswitch i think tho.... :D ) .....
-
from what i here there all good :D thats why id deffinately ask tim for a informed oppinion...... he'll set u in the right direction :D

What pickups do you have in at the moment? Are you looking for something of similar output or more/less?
Bear in mind that Tim offers all his pickup cover options for any model, so you can get any of the BKP range with camo covers.
-
I don't think you'll go too far wrong with 'bombs. The neck is beautiful played clean, the bridge breaks up fast, but does a wide range from overdriven to metal. I've not tried it much myself but others have commented that it does well in drop tunings as well if that helps your cause.
The ceramic Warpig is surprisingly versatile, but personally I think it does best with a good amount of gain, if you want some serious bottom end chug without it feeling lifeless the WP will work for you.
The Nailbomb has a ceramic option for the bridge if you want it.
I hope the recording session goes well, and I hope you can post up some clips when you get the 'bombs loaded :)

Well, I just ordered the Nailbomb with camo cover. Didn't have any drop down for a ceramic option? I may have to write them and let them know I want that instead. I'll let ya know how I like it and post clips when we get some stuff up.
By the way, there is an older version without my solo on our myspace of "This Ain't No Costume, It's A Way of Life"

Yeah send Tim an email and ask for the Ceramic magnet, it's not a 'standard' option on the website order form.

Nailbombs are incredibly versatile.
When on 10 they are creamy smooth and do the high gain thing perfectly - however, when I turn mine down to 7 or so, they'll do a cracking crunchy/punky tone, without a volume drop.
Brilliant, brilliant pickups.
Mark.

The nailbombs should improve that tone considerably! Not too much like my cup of tea, though. Do post back when you have some clips and pics with your new pickups!!!
