Title: Pics of LPs with covered, uncovered or a combination of both HBs
Post by: Ian Price on February 27, 2009, 07:40:17 PM
Hello all,

As noted on other posts I'm looking at getting some BKPs for my LP copy (it's a cherry burst). I'm really undecided about either going for both covered, one covered and one uncovered, all cream, zebra or all black (or a mixture!)

Have my fellow forum members got photos of LPs with their HBs (either covered or not). I can imagine what mine will look like but want to look at some real examples. I know I could trawl thorugh all LP related gear posts but that would take me hours! It also gives an excuse to post pics of your guitars again!

Cheers all,

Ian.

Don't remember who that was. I just went through the BKP pickups page. I got to page 39 and sort of lost the will to live..

I haven't got any pics, but I like the double cream bridge, zebra neck look (like the one d1dsj posted above, only with the cream coil facing the fingerboard).

That is my favourite one so far Philly. So many pups, so little time.

It's not an LP of course, but it's the old Hamer Sunburst I'm thinking of:

Sadly not.  But I do have an '80 or '81 Hamer Special, which is basically the same but without binding (and, I think, a much thinner maple top).   I foolishly put a Kahler on it (it was 1985!) and changed the pickups about a million times.  It's in a bad state now, unfortunately.  :(   This is a very old picture:

i like the glass of red wine next to the wine red one

Changed the PUs about a gazilion times on my Hamer Sunburst. Guess it's the thin neck. There is just not enough flesh to the bone.

Well, with apologies for boring anyone who's heard the story before (and for the thread hijack):

The lining of the case reacted with the guitar's finish (which I guess is nitro) and sort of "ate" into it - not right through to the wood or anything dramatic, but it's left the whole of the back of the guitar with a strange matt, textured finish. It might polish out, but I suspect it would be better to to give the whole guitar a few clear coats.

It's been lying around for years with no bridge, no pickups or electronics and lines drawn all over the top where I planned to correct the bridge and pickup alignment after some early bodges.

I also can't decide whether to get rid of the Kahler.  I have one of the old Kahler flatmount fixed bridges (as used by Mustaine and Friedman many years ago) which would cover the hole, but it would be better to actually plug the tremolo cavity, which is beyond my woodworking skillz (and toolz).

(Ideally, I'd like to get it back to original spec with the little hardtail bridge, but that would mean replacing the whole maple veneer, which I'd never do - I'm too fond of the original top and the colour)

sounds like the simplest solution would be learn to love the kahler!

:) Indeed!  And although I don't like trems in general, I do like the feel of the Kahler (hate Floyds!).

But I've ditched the string clamp thingy and made a new trussrod cover to hide the holes.  If I do keep the Kahler I'll fit some locking tuners and see how that works out.

Aye she's a screamer... I may have to let her go though... :( A new amp is the priority, then maybe an SG. As much as I like this guitar, I still feel LPs aren't really for me...
