Ol' "Tub o' Lard" Malmsteen showing us how to look after our most valuable assets...
-
My god, i don't think i've cringed so many times in one video!
-
I wonder if he keeps em like that or if they were pulled out for the shoot. I don't care -- if that's how he treats 'em, more power to him. He can afford to replace 'em, I guess.
What was very interesting were the scale ship models behind the display glasses; I would like to know more about them!
-
That's...terirble, Malmers. Have some respect for your gear!
-
well, it's true, they are his and he can do what he likes with them, doesn't stop me cringing! he's kept the '54 strat all original, but he just drops it when he's finished talking about it! i wouldn't treat a cheap copy like that. but, he does still have them all, they do seem to survive. still more gentle than pete townsend!
-
I suppose he regards them as tools and not objects for reverence. Or maybe he was in a hurry to get to the doughnut shop?
-
In a way, I wish I could have that kind of cavalier attitude to guitars... but I was cringing and laughing nervously when that Sky guitar went over sideways. And when he banged the V into 4 or 5 other guitars.
I don't even want to think about what carnage the off-camera noises were caused by...
-
The moral is, Do not show off your highly valuable collection when drunk.
By the way does anyone else think he looks like Elvis?

 Yeah, Fat Elvis. Maybe even Tortelvis.
I love the way he wears shades (Elvis shades) and leather strides in his "home" studio.

I treat my gear like that, they're just tools at the end of the day, albiet expensive ones, I don't really go in for the mystical attitude to instruments a lot of musicians have. They're more robust than folk tend to realise!
Course, I might treat a 54 strat a little differently , but to Yngwie, I guess a 54 strat is cheaper than one of my guitars is to me...

my heart was in my mouth when the sky guitar almost fell over!

Almost? Watch it again!

in a sec - i'm watching "in the studio with... dragonforce" at the moment ;)
...
oh!!!! :-O
-
He probably does that to age 'em better
Proper relicing... haha
I think some of us do mollycoddle our gear too much, i certainly am with my PRS.
Though im not that bothered about the cheaper instruments.
-
Surely he'd have enough to at least afford some decent stands? :P
-
Haha, it's old but a classic. Yeah, I actually love his attitude. He also once said that he never uses one guitar too much, because he doesn't want to get attached to a a single guitar in case it breaks.
Fender still managed to make a hellishly expensive custom shop model based on a yellow strat.
-
im going home to scallop my les paul custom...who's with me!
-
I've only just had a chance to watch this, having read all the comments over the last day or so...
... it's not nearly as bad as I was expecting!
I'm a little bit more precious with mine than I used to be, but when I was gigging I treated mine roughly the same - the only thing I was concerned about was causing issues on the playing surface or putting to much strain on a neck. Bumping bodies into each other was nothing, they got far worse when in use on stage
I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by this chap - I was expecting a p1ssed tw@t, but he seemed ok to me.
I like the look of scalloped, and one day I might try it, but I'm not sure it's me, and it's an expensive experiment!
