Title: NVD in Powerball
Post by: BigK on March 03, 2009, 01:45:59 PM
Hi guys I finally got my new preamp valves in my powerball.

In the end i went for a JAN phillips 5751 in V1 and JJ 12ax7's in V2,3 & 4. and Wow did they make a difference. They basically got rid of all the harsh fizzy treble, warmed up the amp no end and gave the gain channels far more useable scope in gain before becoming overly compressed. Its even made the 4th channel usable for more recto like tones.

All in all its the best £45 I have ever spent on gear.  :gif:

I've just got to get my g12k-100 hooked up into my 2x12 with the classic lead 80 i bought at the same time.

That's a winning combination IMHO - I have 2 of each in my 4x12".

Glad you like your new valves too.  I wonder if I could do something similar for my Savage 120? (although I am VERY happy with my sound atm...)

*tries to imagine my PB with uberkab and EQ20 in the effects loop sounding better*

*Fails*

Must be awesome. I may try those on my next revalve. You change the power valves as well?

the power valves were changed to JJ 6l6gc's just before I bought it so I only really know what it sounds like with those in. I might try some winged c's at some point but Im very happy atm.

Your review is why I diecided to give it a try. Ive never played a savage so I dont know, but you do lose a bit of gain on the clean and crunch channels so if you have some tone you like in the last quarter you may stuggle to get there.

hmm, honeymoon period over, I seem to be getting a bit more feedback than i was before but thats the only negative point. I will just have to get used to rolling my volume pots off when im not playing. otherwise its freaking awesome!
