Title: Amp taken care of, now... Telecaster!
Post by: Pierre on March 04, 2009, 11:17:13 PM
Yep, tis twang time... Say I had up to £250 to spend on a Telecaster... what would y'all advise? Second hand MIM seems like the best bet so far... I'd upgrade it with pickups and a 5 way megaswitch.

Oh also, are MIMs routed under the pickguard..? I'd make it SSS (Tele, Strat, Strat) with the switch wired:

Bridge/bridge + middle/bridge + neck/neck + middle/neck, with a push pull to make position 3 in series...

Squier Classic Vibe is good value, and already routed for a neck humbucker  ;)

Good call on these... I could probably get a second hand MIM for this price, but they're still in the running. Never putting a neck bucker on a Tele though  :?

Would that wiring need a double-wafer superswitch?  I'm not sure it would fit in a Tele control cavity.

My mate just got one of these as a cheap backup guitar and its actually not bad. Feels like it could do with a good setup though.

MIM's are good, mine wasn't swimming pool routed. So it might mean getting the old hammer and chisel out.But you will get Fender on the Headstock. There was a MIJ on Gumtree this week for £250.

Well I think I'll keep it simple, get a MIM, a 4 way switch (got one already, woot) and wire it as a Tele with added neck + bridge in series. Upgrade the bridge and saddles along the way too. Thanks!

+1 on the Squier CV Tele.

Just as good, maybe even better than the MIM's.

Order where you can get them the cheapest, the quality is very consistent.

second-hand MIJ tokai. if you're lucky, you can pick up one of the newer ones (with modified headstock) for around £250. EDIT: it's probably routed like a vintage tele, though, if that's a problem.

i haven't tried the classic vibes yet, though. :(

I have one of these, it is a fantastic guitar. Built to a very high standard.

I didn't know it was routed for a humbucker, now im thinking about a MQ for it!

Yep, works really well - like a twangy 'bucker  :)

I don't use the guitar that much though, so I may sell it.
