Title: Best suited pickups for me?
Post by: Zao on March 06, 2009, 06:15:37 PM
Couple of questions I have here,
I'm looking for some new pickups to put into my Ibanez RG1570 (HSH, Basswood body)
I'm playing through a Peavy 6505+

Now for humbuckers I'm stuck between
Miracle Man
Nailbomb
Warpig
Painkiller

I can't seem to choose between them

I like to play with high gain applications ("shred", metal, brutalz if I must say)
Kinda want a tight tone, for that of course the miracle man
But I'm afraid it'll be to compressed.

Though I am leaning towards the Miracle Man or Warpig more
But the Painkiller just seems so awesome..
Damn, I don't know.. Any input guys?

Ultra tight (tighter than a MM) and not compressed = pankiller.

I know most cats boost their 6506+ and/or 5150's, do you?  The reason why I ask is because the 6505 isn't an overly bass heavy amp and boosts (depending on which one) tend to suck out some bass.  Warpigs, alnico & ceramic, are phenominal amps that aren't overly bass-heavy and they compensate for alot of the bass suck TS type boost pedals impart.  You'll probably want to boost the A-Pig to get a very tight response, but it tightens up nice and isn't overly compressed.  The C-Pig boost well to, but it's not a necesity by any means.  It's notably more compressed than the A-Pig, but it's still more dynamic than say an EMG or Duncan Distortion.
