Title: N.A.D, Laney Lionheart L5T 112
Post by: donovan.x on March 06, 2009, 08:27:01 PM
Hi Guys,

At last! I have the Laney.
Quick review:

Build. This thing is perfect, everything is finished really nicely, it feels solid and I have no reason to believe otherwise, nothing feels cheap on it.

Sound;
Clean channel.
In a word, stunning. Very versatile, it can go from very bright to very soft and mellow, it does start to break up at about 12 but that is really loud anyway (that’s with a set of MM in the guitar)

Drive channel.
Again, it’s just what it should be, it is a vintage gain sound but the eq settings are so responsive that you can achieve quite a range of great gain settings.

With the bright switch and tone control on this amp you have a great array of sounds to play with.

The reverb is a little stingy but what there is very rich and natural sounding.
A couple of big questions that tend to pop up with the L5T seem to be a) Can it do metal? In a word, no, and b) could you gig it? A small gig with a microphone? Probably (think Moles club, Bath).
One of my questions was how compatible is it with a distortion pedal (a DistX in this case) and the answer is...

WOW, now it does metal, what I have now (including the pedal) is a three channel amp of mind blowing quality that I can play in the house without my neighbours wanting to inflict to much pain on me.
I don’t gush without reason, I have had my fair share of amps and most of which I was able to pick serious flaws with within minutes that seriously hampered my enjoyment of them but the Laney is different, its fun and I genuinely love it.
With the pedal it cost me £650 and its worth every penny, this one’s a keeper.

Since I have had the MM set in my guitar I have been using Line 6 guitar port, modelling software does no justice to those pickups whatsoever, only now am I hearing their true sound and it is awesome.

Thanks for reading,
Phil.

Looks very nice indeed.  Is there a footswitch for clean/drive channels?

There is a two button footswitch which handles the drive and reverb, both channels have there own master volume control.

I have a L5T as well and am very happy with it. Personally I don't think the gain channel is up to much so I use an OCD for this.
