Title: first live use of the rebel yells
Post by: Dmoney on March 08, 2009, 05:52:10 PM
SO, my band playing in Meerhout, Belgium last night.
it was crazy!

i used my Dual Rec - newly fitted with EL34 tubes and JJ preamp tubes.
two 4x12 1960A cabs, side by side, not stacked.
les paul custom with rebel yell set, tuner, crybaby from hell, DD-3 delay (first time being used too!)

SOOOO good!
everyone commented on how good we sounded, and how awesome the guitar sound was.
it was enjoyable just to hear that stuff cranked up, playing was filled with the usual dangers of people running on the stage and 3 microphone cables got pulled apart. but it was awesome!

Rebel Yells, awesome!!!

Cool. Nice one !!

I don't own any Rebel Yells, nor did I play in Belgium last night, but I did play the song "Rebel Yell" last night in front of a drunken pub crowb. So can I be part of the gang too ?

Sounds great, but you seriously play with TWO 4x12" live?

I bet your tone is massive! See if you can get a friend to film it or plug a mini-disc in to the mixing desk and record it. You will be glad you did one day and besides we would all love to see/hear it all in action!

i usually play with one 4x12. depends on whats kicking around. i own two 4x12's but if i take them anywhere its usually for use with 2 guitarists! haha. before we had 2 guitarists id have a 4x12 either side of the stage.

last night there was a mesa 4x12 and 3 1960A cabs. our other guitarist used one and i just used two side by side. ive done it once before and i like it. the cabs weren't mic'd up so it was just pure cranked mesa to fill the room.

i like the 1960A cabs. i find mesa's a bit bass heavy. a lot of the time i use backline brought by whoever, since carting 4x12's about is a nightmare, thats why i don't have any super cool cabs. cos i dont use my own that much. also the reason i haven't tried playing with speaker matching.

Glad to hear it went well, and glad to hear your crowd appreciated the effort you put in to sounding good for them!

I really didn't like my SG with Rebel Yells paired with my old dual rec. Sounded great with my 5150 II though

i've been fiddling with my dual rec. did the presence pot swap on the orange channel. been running it on 6V6 tubes and GZ34 rectifiers. Then i went to EL34 for a bit more bass. RY's cut down the bass coming out of my guitar so now its all even really. my problem with les paul, emeralds, and 6L6 mesa was too much bass. i also put some new preamp tubes in it. gold pin JJ's in V1 and V5 and standard 12AX7 JJ's in the rest of the positions. cut some of the harshness out of the gain and made it much more manageable. I used it again in Brighton tonight and it was so easy to dial up a good tone. i used to have a nightmare with this head. now its all cool thanks to fiddling with tubes and pickups.

now im experimenting with my pedals!

For the best chat up lines, I suggest watching the film Sex Drive. There are two horny metallers that can open up the conversation, but can't take it to any depth. Especially worth the unrated edition! wassup wassup.. yeah.

Well i wouldn't worry about that, your doing more than I've ever done with a band. I'd love to come and photograph all the mayhem! I'm well, was a semi pro 'tog' once so it'll be a pleasure! I love taking photos of extreme things and i love music so its a double the fun! If you get me a stage pass cos i'll be able to make a proper job of it!
:D

A few of us met up in December and it was funny saying are you lads from an internet forum.

Here's a shot of a Led Zep tribute band i took photos for

When i was around 21 me and a mate tried the most sexist chat up lines we could think of. The one that actually worked a couple of times was "Oi bird, buy me a lager!" Well it was 1986 and things were different then but you didn't really expect it to work!

I used to have a mate that used the line "'ello luv, do ya $%&#?".  It worked more times than you would expect, but the best response I heard was "yes but not with someone like you".  His theory was he wouldn't be wasting money buying drinks if they said no!

The absolute worst line I ever heard was 'You must have a lovely bush", though to be fair the girl looked like she would have (unfortunately that wasn't the right answer when she complained to me! If I'd had less to drink and had been sympathetic I was probably in there!).

In the 70's I scored a few times with the old 'I bet you 10p I can make your tits wobble without touching them' line (it been worth 10p to feel the tits anyway).  I went out with a girl for 2 years who I picked up by sticking my cold hands inside her halter neck top (she did hit me at first - but apologised to me when she saw me later, saying she had to hit me because she was with her friends! Interestingly one of her friends also came over to talk to me too).

Nowadays I am so used to women picking me up that I don't have good opening lines  :P
