If you can find yourself an ATI 4850 in budget, go for it (I doubt you'll get one for 100 smackers). Failing that, the 4830 is a great card for the price.
Tomshardware have a top cards in various price brackets - it's sadly only the US one, but you can extrapolate the info from there coupled with a couple of browser windows open with your favourite UK suppliers for price comparisons...

I'm not in favour of Nvidia over ATI or vice versa - I don't care which company makes my card, but the price/performance ratio is definitely important!

ATI cards are GREAT.

What BUS are you using? PCIe? AGP?

About this time last year I got a Leadtek 8800GT 512MB for around that price and its been really good for me :) I use this computer for gaming as well as 3D modelling/animation.
I guess you can get better for the money now though?

For 100 quid, as the OP has found, you can pick up a 1GB 9800GT which will wipe the floor with a 9600GT (well, be better than it, at least!). I think the ATI 4730 is probably a little more, but I haven't checked prices of these, recently.
