Title: questions about Holy Diver and Strats
Post by: ritualhomicide on March 12, 2009, 02:11:29 PM
hello,

I have a Strat (alder body, maple neck & fretboard) with a Dimarzio YJM in the neck.  this Strat has a H-S setup, and I'm wanting a new humbucker for the bridge.  I play old-school metal.

how would the Holy Diver sound?

would it mate well with the YJM stacked humbucker at the neck?  here are the YJM specs:

Alnico V
93 output
23.5 DC

or should I replace the YJM with the Trilogy, for a Hold Diver/Trilogy combo?  better idea?

thanks!

Holy Diver sounds fantastic in alder-bodied guitars.  Masses of fat midrange grind, powerful, punchy, articulate, yet versatile.

No experience of the DiMarzio you mentioned, but I can tell you that the Trilogy is a great match for the HD - I have that exact combination in a Charvel.

thanks for the reply  :)

how noisy is the Trilogy?  is there a big jump in hum when switching to the Trilogy?

I quite like the YJM (or HS-3 in fact, I haven't actually tried a YJM), but the specs are really deceptive, especially that huge DC resistance.  It sounds like a medium output, very warm single coil.

I haven't tried a Trilogy, but it is designed for an Yngwie sound of course so I don't think you'd be disappointed.  It will hum a bit though!
